Looks like they are finally updating their MMORPG to a new game.

http://www.finalfantasyxiv.com/

The preview ain't great, but looks like I'll jump into this one as long as character customization and rough job grinds gets tweaked.

If they fix what was wrong with FFXI (pretty much no soloing with some rare exceptions, mixing Japanese/Euro/North American players while being heavily biased towards Japanese players, endlessly looking for group unless you play certain jobs, etc.) then I'll probably check it out.

I have very low expectations that they'll fix any of that though, but who knows.

Yeah, XI sucked.

I'm looking forward to all these XIII incarnations though.

Exactly my thoughts, once my set party broke up, I really couldnt find a group that was worth joining at 75 war/nin, and then trying to lvl sub jobs at 30 was horrible, at least at the time I played. Now I guess they changed a lot stuff... not sure though. I did recoginize the armor the male was wearing, I think I had it at one time, haubergeon... oh and inflation was horrible in FFXI quit for a while when the good armor was 1.2m came back a while later and it was at 6-8m. I heard that it will be released at the same time though in all countries, that might help some things.

Yeah, from what I can find, they are trying for a 2009 release, but is highly unlikely. Both FFXIII and XIV should be out around the same time. XIV should be released within the same week in Japan, U.S. and parts of Europe.

I'm thinking, if anything like XI, you'll want to hop on and enjoy it while it is new.

I am excited about both, I recently cancelled gemstone about 3 weeks ago. I might be ready to start paying for a game again in a year.

Meh was hoping for another stand alone solo game. Not too impressed by this.

Star Wars takes my fancy for the next gen MMO.

FFXIII is the stand along solo RPG. XIV is the online MMO. Both coming out around the same time. And XIII has I think 2 games (2 parts rather) coming out and then a PSP (which was originally slated for phones).

They should give the FFVII PSN release a re-paint like they did with 5 & 6 for the PSX.

If you played IV for the DS, I know they have plans on doing V and VI the same way (voice actors, repaint, etc). Hopefully it can continue to VII.

Nice idea. I'd love a Advent Children like total remake of FFVII, personally. Really spruce up the graphics, make the story a little less fuzzy. Doing that and still making it memorable would be one hell of a balancing act.

Never liked when they show the cut scenes as a trailer. I'd like to see how 99.9% of my game time will be spent, not how well you can render movies.

Show me some gameplay dammit!

Waiting for the game play vid to make it to the internet. I caught a clip on TV from E3, looks pretty rad.

Even if it's released a few days earlier in Japan, they'll probably pull some stunt like they did with the 2nd expansion (forgot the name of it). I forgot exactly what the deal was but you could make a ton of money selling some easy as hell to get item to vendors.

Then they nerfed it the day before the North American release, giving the JP players another huge advantage on the market. I heard they did something similar right before the game originally arrived in North America too.

There's been other similar conveniently timed nerfs (i.e. after the JP players exploit it and just before the North Americans get ahold of it), I just can't remember what they were it's been so long.

People have been asking for a next gen FFVII remake ever since the PS3 was announced. SquareEnix is incredibly stupid for still not making one. It would probably be one of the top selling games of all time, and I have no idea why they won't do it other than stupidity.

Haven't really clicked or researched it yet... but isn't XIV supposed to be PS3 exclusive?

The Ponzzz
06-05-2009, 01:26 AM
It was contracted to Sony after they lost exclusive titling to XIII. Whether they keep it that way or if there is just a term the contract has to be PS3 exclusive, who knows.

It'll probably come out for PC too.

I read a quote from a Square exec saying PS3 and PC

Update...

Investor/Player was so unhappy with the game, that he rage-quit and dumped $26 million worth of ENIX stock.

http://www.massively.com/2010/10/13/rumor-final-fantasy-xiv-draws-a-26-million-ragequit/

.

Another version of the same story... player/investor owned 1% of the company.

http://www.ffxivcore.com/topic/25191-japanese-se-shareholder-sells-25000000-in-stocks/

.

By all indications, it was basically just a copy & paste of FF-11 with a minor touch-up?

The IGN review trashed it pretty hard and gave it a 5.5. Apparently the interface is so awful that it ruins everything, even the good parts of the game and is about as far from pick up and play as you can get, even for MMO veterans.

Only good thing I remember them saying was that it's more solo friendly than XI.

These youtube WoW commentators deviated to do a review of FFXIV, it was fucking hilarious because they were really, really pissed at the end of it. Plus, they have British accents.

Yup. I played during beta and it was terribad. It might be worth a shit if you're playing on the PS3, but why even bother releasing it for the PC when you've got controls that are such garbage and you're completely unwilling to adapt it to the keyboard/mouse. That menu system can go fuck itself.
