Edited for easier reading (bolded things are important). I'll share my thoughts after the log.

>
Ragesh just arrived.

Shadowy tendrils rise from the ground and quickly coalesce into a humanoid form. As quickly as they appeared, the shadows retreat back into the surroundings, leaving Foxs in their place.

Foxs makes a quick gesture while calling upon the powers of the elements...
Foxs gestures.
Foxs appears to be keenly aware of her surroundings.

Speaking softly to Ragesh, Foxs asks, "I thought you got thrown from here?"

You see Lady Foxs Ta'Mori Faendryl the Gypsy.
She appears to be a Dark Elf.
She is shorter than average. She has shimmering, mismatched light mauve and dark amethyst eyes and flawless, sooty ebon skin. She has nearly floor-length, lustrous platinum hair that cascades in a graceful fall of soft twists, curls and waves down her back, trimmed with windswept bangs. A diminutive and faint birthmark accents the side of her neck, its shape appearing almost purposeful and emblematic, but with no clues as to an origin.
Her face is concealed by a bewitching spidersilk elven-crafted fox face facade.
She has a thin black diamond ring in the upper ridge of her right ear, a thin dark diamond ring in the upper ridge of her left ear, a sigil-incised deep ebony half-ring in her right eyebrow, and some tattooed interlocking sigils on her arm.
She is in good shape.
Notice she's already holding nothing
She is wearing an ornate silver circlet set with a large brilliant diamond that dangles low on the forehead, a sigil-etched scarlet despanal pendant dangling dark arkati symbols, a back-laced tightly-fitted corset embroidered with the image of Beh'Amant, a tailored ebon nightmare hide longcoat, some floor-length ebon robes backed with a raised scarlet pentacle on a field of grey, a scarlet components satchel with a silver clasp slung over her shoulder, a sigil-etched ebon armband dangling a dragon's-tear diamond pentacle, a pure eahnor engagement band inset with a stylized black diamond flame, a low-slung diamond-studded belt, some low-cut tight elven-styled ebon leather breeches with slits on the hips, a leather-tied ebon silk gem pouch, a grey suede alchemy kit stitched with a deep red pentacle, a silk sack, and some high-heeled elven-styled sharply pointed ebon boots.

Oh, and this was after I closed all my bags, someone left theirs open!

Ragesh put a blue sapphire in his spidersilk sack.

Ragesh put an aquamarine gem in his spidersilk sack.

Ragesh put an ultramarine glimaerstone in his spidersilk sack.

Foxs just opened a leather-tied ebon silk gem pouch.

Foxs put a piece of spiderweb obsidian in her ebon silk gem pouch.
>
Ragesh says, "I need to hunt. I'll return to finish up."

Foxs put a white opal in her ebon silk gem pouch.

Foxs put a golden blazestar in her ebon silk gem pouch.

Foxs just closed a leather-tied ebon silk gem pouch.

Foxs whispers, "Seriously I was only toying with you. Never wise to steal from priests and empaths."

So, I've helped her DOZENS of times. In River's Rest (I guess she was banished from most other places) I saved or chrism raised her multiple times, multiple nights in a row. I play Ceno as a very generous cleric and offer chrisms to EVERYONE he raises. She's specifically said she'd never steal from me, and Ragesh and I have hunted together and have a similar agreement. I really would have believed her if she had taken the gem and offered it back to me after... But instead she decided to use the rogue guild skill (I'm uncertain what it's called) to silently put the gem in her pouch??? And that's her toying with me? I know a lot of people are biased against Foxs, but am I being a dick here?

Ceno doesn't attack thieves, because that's honestly the first time I've noticed something missing from my bags (well, I noticed it BEING taken). People rarely steal from:

You see Great Lord Ceno Parcere the Cleric.

And my Paladin wouldn't attack someone thieving from Ceno because he just doesn't care. All the Paladin carries around are cursed gems and blue crystals so they get stolen all the time, but people figure it out eventually and stop stealing from him after I laugh at them enough....

I'm not going to say you're being a dick, but given Foxs reputation, I would not leave any container opened around him/her. Close your containers, put your silvers in the bank, and now that you've caught them stealing from you, RP it out the way your character feels about it.

I think it's a perfectly valid reaction, and I wish it'd happen more often.

Question: if I have a needle or an armed jaw trap or somesuch in my container, what're the odds that they'll go off if someone tries to steal from me? Is it guaranteed? If not, what affects the odds?

Get a Gem pouch or something and fill it with traps/cursed gems. Put your gems somewhere else and close it. If your traps/cursed gems/etc are the only thing available the likelyhood is much better =).

Too bad a damn tough sorcerer can't make a curse for a gem that would kill a thief.

I was told by a smith the other day that it depended on the difficulty of the trap that the jaws/needle came from and the pickpocketing skill of the thief.

Not sure if that's accurate or just one of those things that people have invented over the years. I carry both on the dais around Foxs/Ragesh and have never seen either of them get caught by them (my cleric has shit perception though, so I've never seen them reach in either). Of course... I also close my containers on the dais.

Hate to side with Foxs but you gotta always close every container. For no cost at all you can completely nullify a thief's pickpocketing skill and tricks. Anything you haven't secured is fair game.

Not too sure how safe being a cleric will render you these days.. that sack of orb gems might be a tempting mark. And if the thief has a pocket cleric or an out of game friend with a cleric they might not care about being rescued.

No amount of failed precautions on the victim's part makes the theft his/her fault.

The rape victim was asking for it by traveling alone, dressing like a slut, and going down a back alley, right?

Not taking the precautions that can be taken may be foolish, but there is no "fair game" for theft. There's just "possible game", if you don't close your containers.

I would much rather have the thief grab a cursed gem or a trap from me than not allow them to reach into my container. If there's a thief around, I WANT him to get caught, not stymied. I guess I should stop singing Song of Peace =P

To return to my previous question: what factors (besides nothing else being in the container!) affect this? PP skill vs. trap level was mentioned, is there anything else? If they specifically try to steal a diamond, for example, will they bypass the trap since they're specifically looking for a diamond? Or is it a check that has to be passed before they have a shot at ANYTHING in the container?

It's mostly academic at this point, I think I really am going to force myself into the habit of only leaving a trapped container open at all times.

You were being a dick but you had every reason to be.

Some people laugh it off when they get stolen from... Some react like you did... And some kill for it. I think they're all understandable reactions. Just depends on the person.

Usage:
ACCUSE {player} {crime} - Accuse a player of a crime.
ACCUSE {player} DISMISS - Dismisses charges of all crimes committed against you.

Where {crime} must be one of the following:
IMPROPRIETY
HOOLIGANISM
ASSAULT
THEFT
BANISHMENT

ACCUSE can be used to accuse someone of misconduct towards you. If
someone were to PUNCH you, for example, that is assault upon your
person, and this can be ACCUSED. A number of other verbs are also
included in this system. You can accuse someone at the local constabulary,
the local courtroom, or to any authority figure you may see.

ACCUSE {name} DISMISS can be used to dismiss the charges against
someone who you have ACCUSEd, or someone that has murdered you.
When you dismiss the charges, you are dismissing ALL charges against said
person. You cannot pick and choose which to dismiss. Please note that you
MUST dismiss any charges you want to BEFORE the criminal goes to trial,
as charges already tried and punished cannot be rescinded.

Just because he used hyperbole doesn't make it inaccurate.

Should people close their containers? yes. But that doesn't make theft suddenly ok.

You can condemn the thief for stealing and the victim for being careless. They are not mutually exclusive. (Unless you're an idiot)

You can condemn the thief for stealing and the victim for being careless. They are not mutually exclusive. (Unless you're an idiot)

2. Foxs is an idiot

1,2 ----> mutual exclusivity by m.p.

3. victim is careless

3, exclusivity----> thief cannot be condemned

ergo, ceno should apologise to foxs.

Well, better some effort than none (I'm sure EVERYONE will agree with me there...right?). Do they all worship Arkati, or do they take a fairly documented stance on the Faendryl?

Just because he used hyperbole doesn't make it inaccurate.

Should people close their containers? yes. But that doesn't make theft suddenly ok.

You can condemn the thief for stealing and the victim for being careless. They are not mutually exclusive. (Unless you're an idiot)

You realize GS is a game, right? If you don't want to be stolen from, use a bank and close your containers. It's pretty simple.

:wtf:

Close your containers or lose your shit. Or enjoy the drama that comes from not doing so, I guess.

P.S. I think you're on your way to creating a "Lumi" rule on msg boards comparing this to rape 2 pages into the thread

1 time makes a rule, right?

06-02-2009 02:08 AM srsly wtf, people get waaaaay too butthurt about pickpocketing

Wonder where that came from. Some people get waaaaay too butthurt about other people not wanting their shit stolen.

Fun fact: signatures are for losers, amirite?

Some people justify theft by saying, "Just close your containers." Others just kill the thief. Either way, yeah. It is just a game.

All hail Accuse Thief theft macro's.

You realize gs being a game has absolutely zero to do with what i just said? It's pretty simple.

I don't really care that people are stealing in gemstone to begin with, lord knows I did enough of it when I played my rogue, it's part of the game. But in the general sense, and especially from an in-character perspective (which this post began as) the laziness/carelessness of the victim doesn't suddenly mean theft should have no repercussions.

Providing an opportunity is not providing permission. Kill the bitch, over and over. I used to kill Foxs back when I played then I ran a throw fruit script when Foxs was in the stocks good times.

I believe it is a hidden CS/TD type check. You CAN fail to disarm an attacking scarab by casting 309/315 at it.

Negative. Or, it's so insanely easy to ward with that I've never seen it fail in 8 years.

Of course, you did say 'attacking' and I meant 'disarmed' as in - dropped from the box, but not scratched on by a rogue.

It's my memory that using 309 is the only way to remove a scarab from someone who's been bitten by a black/red one. 315 does nothing, oddly enough.

When they're on the ground while they're attacking, I never bothered to try to cast 309 or 315 at them again, so I honestly can't say about that in particular. I always just bound them and stomped them. Much more fun.

I used to do this back in the day too.

I would accuse her, get her locked up, and either throw fruit at her while she was in the stocks, and then kill her before she picked up her gear from the constable.

She reported me for GMA and warn interacted me. :nono:

After I accidently tripped a scarab via failing to disarm it properly (Usually user error), I have on several occasions not been able to use 309/315 to get the scarab out of me. Same thing with trying to get a scarab out of other people. Mind you these were OTF scarabs.

Was this before or after the curse changes that rolled in around the same time as the spirit lore review?

Most definitely before.

Most definitely before.

Huh... never had that problem. Of course, I'm using a cleric when I do it. Maybe being 1x in circle is generally enough.

thieves are everywhere and many of the people i travel with think i am paranoid when i am always closing my containers. but i do keep a pouch open with hollow gems that i have cursed. so i know who has stolen from me when i dont see the action take place.
