How much MIU should I accumulate for Cido?

I think I'm at 10 or so ranks now, but I'm not sure where I should stop.

Initially, I wanted to just get enough to effectively use oaken wands, then switch to arcane symbols, but now I'm wondering if there's any other items that I'll need more MIU for.

Also, how many ranks do I need to perfect the use of oaken wands?

Thanks,

Cido

As much as you can possibly afford. Even if you don't see the payoff now, you'll see a payoff when you hit spellburst areas.

As for activating "stuff"....

IF the spell is 509, 9 mana spell, you need a minimum of 9 MIU to activate. Mind you, having the minimum will result in a high percentage of failure.

I'd also suggest getting Arcane Symbols so you can read/use scrolls, if nothing else for self-spellups. If you're just looking to activate most spells, 20-24 ranks is adequate in either skill. More is always better.

Gibreficul wishes he had more AS/MIU/HP ranks

Also, FWIW, you'll need a minimum of 15 Arcane Symbols to read the runes leading into the Broken Lands, 20 is better. Gib's advice of a minimum of 24 in both MIU and AS is golden. And of course, if TPs allow, more is better.

I like 24 AS, I stopped at 16 MIU for invisibility amulets. Eventually I'll probably up that to 24 as well.

But as a pure, I've never had to deal with spellburst, so you might want more by the time you get to such places, depending upon what kind of spellup you tend to wear.

At cap, you would want enough to wear 101-107, 401-414. Being able to wear 202, 503, and 509 would be nice as well.

What's that, like 40 ranks?

Thanks for the advice.

I'm basically spending points in MIU right now til I get enough to use oaken wands consistently.

So maybe I'll do 15 or so then switch to AS.

It's not my goal with Cido to get him to the highest AS or whatever... it's to make him flexible and survivable. (short of training in multiple weapon skills)

so 24 in each for now. Also, Cido has 38 mana and 24 or so ranks in spiritual mana control so he can send to empaths.

Also .5x skinning/FA

I'll have to just post his skills when I get home tomorrow morning.

Control ranks... yes... I strongly suggest, because I hate wasting TPs, saving those last 4 control ranks (get 20 ranks and quit.) Anyone with 27+ ranks in the like control rank will have adequate skills to offset the last 4 ranks you are missing, meaning you'll have 5% failure which is inherent to mana sharing and is unavoidable with any amount of training.

My bard has 20/20 mental/elemental control ranks. He'll never get more until cap.

Gibreficul has 20/20 spiritual/elemental. He'll never get more until he has 101 spell ranks, MIU/AS/HP ranks. It's just not worth the cost to me.

If you hunt with a cleric regularly, the two of you should make plans to also allow 303 (under spellburst).

It's not that hard to keep up on someone else and it's 50+ DS for a 3 'spellburst rank' spell.

That has been changed. 303 when cast at another person carries the base +10 DS. Same thing for 202, and possibly some others.

You swing a closed fist at XXX!
AS: +0 vs DS: +78 with AvD: +17 + d100 roll: +80 = +19
A clean miss.
Roundtime: 16 sec.

prep 303
You raise your hand while murmuring a soft orison, focusing on the Prayer of Protection spell...
Your spell is ready.

cast at XXX
You gesture at XXX.
A pure white aura sparkles around XXX.
Cast Roundtime 3 Seconds.
(Forcing stance down to guarded)

You swing a closed fist at XXX!
AS: +0 vs DS: +134 with AvD: +17 + d100 roll: +43 = -74
A clean miss.
Roundtime: 16 sec.

*insert sounds of someone yelling "Ohhhhh snapppp!" and a crowd gasping*

Don't worry Gib, you're still my friend ;)

I think maybe you're thinking of a different spell? The only way you can cast 303 on someone is by training up in blessings. 202 WAS changed a while back to only give the base DS.

For the record.. mine takes 18 mana and it lasts 2 minutes when cast on someone else.

I musta missed when 303 changed back. Probably when they started to require lore, and limiting the duration to a couple minutes, they put back the full bonus. Before, when it was first nerfed, the duration was set at the same duration the cleric got, with all the bonuses. THat wasn't the intention so the GMs said.
