View Full Version : Pickpocketing, do you REALLY use it?

I'm thinking on maybe dropping it all together. I've got over 100 ranks in it, but I never use it. The player base is just so small that I never see enough people in one area to make it effective. Perhaps there are in other cities, but I spend a lot of my time in Landings.

I'm just trying to see what I would use more. I reactivated my account about 2 or 3 months ago, and I have never used pickpocketing. I do go hunting often though. I was playing with the points, and by removing all my pickpocketing ranks, I was able to increase my armor ranks from 82 to 97! I could almost wear augmented breastplate with that, which would REALLY be useful because of the arm coverage.

As far as putting it towards picking or ranged.... :shrug:
I'm pretty happy at 2x with all that. I'm not trying to be a super box picker.

So at level 50, with 82 ranks of armor, would you drop the 102 pickpocketing ranks and put them in armor? Or something else?

If you'd just keep the pickpocketing ranks, then how often do you use it? What areas?

its seen as a core part of being a rogue by a lot of players i'd imagine...but if you need the PTPs, drop it!

I untrained all mine on my rogue for the same reason. It just wasn't fun to pickpocket any more. And no, there's no other good areas. The landing is a populated as it gets. sad, huh?

I'm sure you'll find a few different opinions. I'd rather use it for combat stats or whatever.

I agree, but the playerbase just doesn't support it anymore. Why drain the points if you rarely, if ever, use it? These past few months I've never touched it. Just seems like a huge waste, imo

I'll have to agree with you.....in this age of 200-300 players being the norm......it's a waste unless you just want to fool around.
you can get a pretty good amount of CM ranks from dropping 2x PP

I don't really care much for DR. I played it once for a free trial years ago...wasn't too thrilled. I guess I'm just too set in Gemstone to want to change.

But I will be dropping pickpocketing come fixskill time. Augmented breastplate sounds very nice. I was considering a spell route, but this is my first character to reach plate coverage, and it's too hard for me to go back, even though I have a nice altered set of fgb somewhere.

I miss my mbp, but not as much as I would miss being able to ewave a room full of potential targets. ;)

Although I don't plan on hunting stone sentinels forever, they do have that nasty attack where they spew up a rock at you. Had I not of been wearing a mbp, I likely would of died. I've walked away only taking 5 points of damage, where I've seen a capped sorcerer drop dead from the same thing.

My caster doesn’t fair well with head shots either, especially from rocks.

PP was very nice to have back in the day, though I never used it to get rich or a tool to abuse. I would use it for mostly for fun or RP purposes. Before it was changed to where it is now, it was a great tool. I dropped it on both my Rogue and Wizard a long time ago though for other useful skills.

IMO I would recommend the points being added to your armor training. The sooner you can get into the better piece the more durable you will be. Honestly I would have my wizard in chain if the spell hindrance wasn't so bad. I have always believed in armor as the core in this games Combat system. :medieval:

I steal from everyone all the time where ever I'm at. My goal when I enter a room is to empty everything out of everyone's open containers as quickly and as efficiently as possible. I wouldn't drop pickpocketing for anything.

He's really not kidding.

I used to just assume since I was obviously a rogue... I didn't have to worry much about someone tryin to steal from me. Then I met Vyst.
