Since I can't afford the Wellbutrin they've prescribed me Prozac now...
Anybody have experience on it? I thought it has a pretty checkered past or is that all just a myth?

I was on Prozac years ago for an anxiety disorder and it worked wonders for me.. however I hear it's different for everyone. I know someone who went on it last year and it just made them MORE depressed than ever.. I think they are on effexor now and swear by it..
best of luck to you though!

I was on Wellbutrin extended release, and when I switched it over for another SSRI, I was a little more tired.
I was on fluoxetine (Prozac) and it didn't really alter my mood too much. It was one of the more subtle SSRIs I've taken.
Was on it for 4 yrs 90mg daily. To excellent results.
7 years later they gave me it again (about 3 months ago) 30mg a day and I had a very bad adverse effect.
I couldn't sit still, I had what I call Party Legs, where they just want to move constantly.
My inner core was anxious and I trembled. I kept it up for a week hoping it would pass but it got worse to the point I had to see an emergency doc.
He had to prescribe me Diazepam 5mg 4 times a day and twice at night.
Took me off the Prozac and told me those are the effects which cause some patients to do anything to make the inner frustration stop.
Bad news.
Gotta see about something else at my next appointment.
I gotta say Sean, if you have trouble focusing your vision, if you feel like the anxiety is made worse you have to tell the doctor immediately.
It could fuck you up. But apart from that the first time I used it, it was fine. Heh.

It's 20mg daily however I'm not sure I want to fill it. That and I'm on Librium as well at the moment so it could be one hell of a cocktail.
I've heard myths all the way from turning you in to a zombie and turning gay men straight and straight men gay or some shit.
wtf
zombie is kinda true.
Instead of getting the bad shit (whatever reason you were prescribed it) you find yourself kinda ''waking up'' like 20 mins later.
Just staring is kinda nice.
Anywhoo I'm out for the weekend I think, take it easy mate.

I was on Prozac (Vitamin P) for a couple of years. It worked really well and there was no withdrawl when I stopped taking it (I tapered doses over the course of a couple of weeks). I'd go on it again if the need arose. The Prozac had a couple of minor side effects but I liked it much better than Zoloft, which I had used a few years earlier. Zoloft made me excitable and sometimes irritable.
My cousin has been on them all and she said Effexor worked the best but the withdrawl when she came off it made her even worse than she was before she went on it.
It's 20mg daily however I'm not sure I want to fill it.
I was on anywhere from 10-50 mg daily while they figured out the correct dose for me (ended up being 20 I think). The nice thing is that it started working pretty quickly.

Lol. It did dampen my sex drive a little but if anything it made me last longer in bed. No zombie effect at all for me; I was much more outgoing and fun back in those days than I am now.

I had that issue once too, but not with prozac. I can't even describe how much it sucks. I couldn't sit still for two minutes at a time... I'd sit down on the couch, get up and sit on the floor, then get up and walk around, then come back and try to sit again. Couldn't manage to stay still and had trembly-shake stuff, too. Couldn't sleep, either. Ugh.

Eh, each person is different. My Doctor started me out on 10mg's Prozac and I felt like a horrible zombie, unable to do anything. Then she added Wellbutron (mg's ?) and it helped alot. She explained that the wellbutron is more of an "up beat" anti depressant but can come with some anxiety issues. It worked for me though.
On a side note, when I told her I wanted off the drugs I asked her how to do it and she replied "just stop taking them, cold turkey."
I said "shouldn't we ease on out of it?"
She said "No, I was giving you such a low dose that it was more of a placebo then anything"
I thought to myself "wtf? couldn't you have given me a cheaper placebo?? Like a real placebo!?"
But I was feeling great so I let go.

I was on Effexor for a few years, lowest dose. I had to leave work a few times & go get it from home if for some fucked up reason I forgot to take it. The withdrawl symptoms from it are the worst & 2 years since my last dose I still have occasional re-visitations of them. Fuck effexor in its face, twice.
Prozac was a miracle drug for one of my friends who was manic depressive. Ymmv of course.
I was on Prozac when I was about 15 years old. It only lasted about a week before I literally wanted to punch everyone in the face. It made me extremely angry and irritable. I stopped taking it and then went back to my psychiatrist, and she then put me on Zoloft. Was on it for about 3 months, and it worked well for the most part. I used Xanax too when I had my anxiety attacks.

I'm 99% positive that Prozac is not the answer if they prescribed you wellbutrin... They had me on prozac for a while and it was making me more fucked up and i was sleeping like 20 hours a day and lost 20 pounds in a month... talked to a few more docs and finally one said it was the opposite..whatever one gets you more of that chemical you need or whatnot to be released... wellbutrin does the opposite of that..they put me on it.. and things kind of got normal.. moods didn't go haywire and shit..I pretty much weaned myself off it cause I hated taking meds..but yeah...
Wellbutrin and prozac aren't interchangable.

I was on Prozac for years and had no physical issues - mentally though, it pretty much made me numb to all emotion. I had no "highs" and no "lows" - damn, I don't think I cried for about 10 years...
The docs changed up all my meds while they were screwing around with everything for my trigeminal neuralgia. He gave me something called Lexapro for depression. I must say, it's a great drug, I'm feeling emotions again, and even with all of the SHIT I am currently going through in my life (think of a really, really bad country song - lost my house, wife left me, dog died, etc.), I am doing OK mentally.
It's an alternative without the possible side effects... good luck!

The generic for Prozac may be cheaper than the one for Effexor. Pretty sure the Venlafaxine just started coming out in pharmacies.

He gave me something called Lexapro
Lexaprous! ::does the Harry Potter:: (My new dance move, suckaz).
Lexapro is the shiznitbamsnipsnapsnips. I want to be on above-clinical dosing @ 30mgs. I'm going to talk to my psychopharmacologist and see if she approves.
Lexapro buddies: High-five!
Oh yeah; and the most effective cocktail for my anxiety with non-addictive longer metabolite-building meds was Zoloft + Lexapro + Zyprexa. I went from 120-210 in an eight month span, but it was worth overcoming panic disorder and tremendous GAD and Social AD at the time.
I smoked salvia once... didn't do shit.
If you inhale a massive bag bong or 2 and keep it in till you can't anymore, it usually makes you feel like you're in the world of Thomas The Tank Engine.
For about oh.. 3 minutes about.
It's not illegal because it's pretty wank.

I've never taken an antidepressant before and am hesitant is all.
I was on Ritalin as a kid for some years. Librium now for my heart rate.
I just personally don't like taking meds at all. Took near death before I decided to take them and it's only been just over a year now.

Well, the antidepressants are a guessing game. You just have to take whatever the doctor prescribes, see how you feel, then try something new if it isn't working. Everyone responds differently to those drugs. Anyone in your family ever take antidepressants?

I used Xanax too when I had my anxiety attacks.
Xanax isn't just for anxiety attacks but is also great if you're just under a lot of stress that's getting to you. It doesn't change your mood (least it hasn't changed mine) so I assume it's not good for depression but for just stress, I'd recommend it one hundred percent. It lowered my blood pressure thirty points. It's also very cheap.
The effects Xanax had on me was put me in a very mellow mood. Like something completely horrid could happen, or something that would normally piss me off could occur, and I'd just be like, "Oh..whatever." It really helped for all the BS I was going through at the time, but now I don't use it.

Prozac almost killed me. It lowered my post divorce anxiety to the level where I was making horrible life decisions and it didn't bother me in the slightest bit.
Ask your doctor about non drug treatment options that include highly structured calendar/time management systems. It probably sounds daunting, but there are ways to ease into such things. Worked for me, your mileage may vary.

Xanax and ativan both scare the shit out of me. I have a family history of depression, but my doctor put me on 1/4-1/2 tab of the smallest dose for very bad test anxiety during a semester that I was taking 17 credits. I wasn't depressed at the time.
I took ativan three times and decided never again. I was wtf-insane depressed until I slept. Three strikes, you're out.
Xanax I took once for the same thing, same results. Doctor and I both agree I'll just suck it up, take the tests and not drink any caffeine, practice breathing/visualization etc. Chemically, the only thing I've found that works is to down 1 1/2 benedryl an hour before each test. This gleaned from my vet who recommended it for my dog's insane storm anxiety.

Well, it's a truism that everyone reacts to drugs differently. The first two days I took the Xanax, I was pretty mellow. Slowed down. Then I adapted to it and now I don't even notice any difference from before except that I can no longer feel my heart pounding in my chest.
Taking care of someone who need lots of medicine, I've learned it's all trial and error as to what works best for someone and what is absolutely horrible. Unfortunately, the best person to really notice this is someone living with the person taking it who can observe what's happening. Doctors? Clueless. And lots of these drugs cost so switching medicine every few weeks till you find the right one can be an expensive proposition.
