View Full Version : A Bug that gets you Naked?

So I was outfitting my little ranger and was walking in and out of tables in Thraks. All of a sudden I tried to retrieve my altered, scripted warhelm from my cloak and found out that the cloak and everything in it was gone. Scrolled up and found the log of it. No removal, no dropping on the player end, the game just did it.

Has anyone had an issue with this before? The Gamehost told me that he thinks it was PSInet related.

I doubt if I'll get my scripted cloak and items back yet because I hadn't had the moment to register it after JUST GETTING IT...sigh

[Raging Thrak Inn, Dining Room]
Loud and abusive noises emanate from behind the swinging kitchen doors, much to the laughing delight of some of the customers, and to the chagrin of others. Tapestries hanging from the walls depict soothing idyllic wildlife scenes. Hard wooden tables and chairs are placed evenly, allowing enough space for the cook and wait servants to pass. You also see a cozy nook and some inviting tables.

You head over to the Ferocious Thrak Table.
[Ferocious Thrak Table]
Wood chairs are pushed haphazardly against the long wooden table. A dagger with a carved bone hilt pins a dried-out apple to the table, providing an interesting centerpiece. A picture of a thrak baring its teeth is drawn in fading paint.

[Giant Thrak Table]
In an effort to accomodate larger clientele, this section of the table has been raised on wooden blocks, which does nothing to increase the stability of its surface. Two of the chairs gathered here are oversized, padded chairs with high winged sides. Squarely in the center of this section is a block-style thrak figure painted dark grey. You also see a rations kit, a reinforced black canvas backpack, a ripped deep black pouch, a handaxe, a travel guide token and a rations kit.

:wtf: Yay! Any :help: ?

How is that a bug? You dropped the cloak and left, and then went to a different table. Looks like you used the Stormfront click and drag to take that cloak off too.

Stormfront drag-n-drop is absolutely evil. I'm willing to bet that's what your problem was, and not in fact, Psinet related.

I don't understand how I dragged and dropped it though, I litterally walked into the table for a half second and walked out because I noticed it was the wrong table.

You have to understand, this was an instant. I didn't have any inventory screen up. The GM said something about drag and drop and maybe I'm not as GS savy as others but I don't even know how to do that on my own. It "sounds" like I would click on an item and drag-n-drop it to the story window...which I didn't even have time to do in there, this all happened in a matter of like, 3 seconds.

and like I said, I'm looking for help as to my reason for it happening. Smells like a bug to me.

You dropped it, it shows that, and never picked it up...

That's not a bug, that is a shitty fuck up, and a lesson learned.

It shows my guy dropped it, it doesn't show that I typed remove cloak, put cloak...
What it looked like to me was, I walked in a room, removed the cloak and dropped it and walked out. Why would you even having something in a game that could happen like that. How about some sort of warning, like when you are going to throw something away that is scripted...I wouldn't mind something like that when it's gonna just get dropped on the floor in a place that is cleaned regularly...

To answer another Q:
Hand was no where near the mouse, I was trying go Giant Thrak Table at the time.

In order to drag-n-drop it, would I have to be able to click on it anyway? I don't keep my inventory window up.

I'm not whining so you STFU yourself. I'm honestly trying to figure this out so that...if a lesson is to be learned I actually learn it instead of having something unexplainable (to my ignorant eyes) happen over and over again.

Thanks for your help, if you're not here to help, don't post, you're wasting other peoples valuable time having to read your unappreciated words and or pictures.

Website was bugging and I hit the post thing twice, just got back from my job interview and noticed it.

I don't know why it waited a couple of posts to put a second copy through.

"other people's" valuable time. Don't assume because you don't value you're recreational time, other people don't see it as valuable and enjoy it for every second of free time they get.

You guys are just being assholes for the fun of it. For whatever reason the post didn't go through and I hit refresh and it did...sorry it went through twice...

Perhaps you should go spend time on a forum of a game you actually play. The main reason I stay in Gemstone is for the community and how much they will go out of their way to help you. Didn't realize GSPC was turning into a WoW Board.

Go troll something else.

I was at a job interview in between, I don't know what you want from me...it's the website that allows the post to go through. When I hit refresh at the time of the first post it's because it hadn't gone through...then...
I just got home.

And for the record I didn't say shit when you double posted the first time because I knew it was most likely an accident as the boards have been acting up for me as well today. I'm fairly certain I double sent a PM earlier.

And people will help you here without a doubt HOWEVER you started to get all pissy. That's when I dropped the tard.

Grow some thick skin if you're going to PC it. But help is bountiful here. On that note I've personally had my wireless mouse act up in stormfront and fucking drop something in a room and I'm fairly certain whether you intended it or not that's what happened.

I appreciate the help.

Sean, it just seemed out of character because you're generally really helpful and you're first post was a pretty dick one, imo. Maybe I felt offended you weren't all cuddly warm with me like you are with everyone else.

*shrug*

Thank you to helping me figure that out. I'm going to toggle that stuff off as soon as I have a chance to get in game.

So you want a Game Genie, with badass codes like unlimited health and ammo so that you always WIN!!!!!?

Edit: Dude, it wasn't a bug, so you will have to move on. If you want to feel better you can look through all my posts and see the one where I lost a 10x 2lb maul due to normal game mechanics, and other people have lost much more valuable items, shit happens.

Welcome to The Gemstone IV Players' Corner. We do indeed procure great fun from our assholery.

Assholery sounds like a shop where they bake assholes now that I think about it.

How do you get that out of wanting a confirmation message (like how they already have in place when you try to throw a scripted item into the trash can) for dropping stuff you probably don't wanna drop?

Ha, and that messages comes up for totally worthless common box found stuff too. I always get it throwing away garbage.

Can someone explain storm front drag and drop, I just dragged some items around from some of the windows for a minute and didn't drop anything.

It works just like moving around any icon.

For example, look in your container. Say you have a white crystal in there. You click on white crystal, and then if you drag it to your right hand window and then let go of the mouse clicker, the white crystal will be in your hand. If you click on the white crystal (either from the game window or the hand window) and drag it to empty space on the game window and let go, the white crystal will be dropped. If you click on it and drag it to your container again, and let go of the click when the container is highlighted, the crystal will move to your container.

It's a great help when you're arrested...you drag and drop things from the box to your inventory window and can put them on much faster than you could manually. It's also great for cleaning crap off benches and stuff...click on rusted horseshoe, drag to trash barrel, click on doorknob, drag to trash barrel, etc.

It's not a help when, say, you click back and forth between your browser and the game window and inadvertently click on one of your items, drag it a minuscule amount and end up dropping the thing on the ground.

Items that you can place things on, under, in, behind, or any combination of the two do have a "stop to confirm" kind of thing, where it asks you if you want to place your item ON or BEHIND or whatever the item. And it's really annoying. I wouldn't like to see it expanded to EVERY time I use the feature.

So what's wrong with making it a toggleable setting?
