I attribute some variation likely to rounding. There are obvious diminishing returns (why? who knows, it isn't like runestaff users have extra defense). A mechanic we were never told about. Below 12 ranks per level it would appear you get about 1 DS for every 10 ranks. Above 12 ranks per level you get 1 DS for every 20, again, with some variation for rounding.

interesting, and thank you. I was always curious about this.

Very helpful. I don't suppose you also had some swings thrown at you while in offense for comparison?

Does the actual bonus of the runestaff figure into the formula? Since it's partly based on THW skills, I'd presume it is?

Yes. It is the same as THW.
Enchant * stance modifier
OFF: .30
ADV: .45
FOR: .60
NEU: .75
GUA: .90
DEF: 1.05
+20 runestaff in stance DEF will provide a bonus of (20 * 1.05) = 21 DS
One handers only provide 1/2 the enchant bonus with smaller stance mod values.
A +20 OH weapon in DEF would be (20/2 * .7) = 7 DS

I didn't know this formula, thanks. Is it in the parry DS formula as an added component or is it just another piece of the total DS calculation (i.e. dodge DS + parry DS + block DS + enchant DS)?
Also when you say one-handers will provide half the enchant, will that apply to each weapon in TWC? So if I have two +20 weapons will my effective enchant bonus still be +20? What are the stance mod values for one-handers?

Viril, I noticed your data stopped at 1452, I'm at 1505 now if you want me to test this? Account closes Sat, so let me know.

I'd like your information Rheisia please :)
Also, could you do all the stances? ..and.. can you do an empty hands calibration test too (that'll help me determine if the room had light/darkness effects)?
Things to watch out for...
No spells, no DB items, no armor, unencumbered. If Rheisia is still on Teras, I can help you out with this.

No longer on Teras, but I could meet you on FWI if we can find a time.
Assuming you're the one doing the swinging, you just tell me what to do and swing. All will be well, as long as I'm not involved in the math. Trust me on that. :tumble:

Two-handers get a bonus of 1.5 to the parry DS formula AND they get to keep their full enchant. One-handers just get half their enchant (and no bonus).
If I remember, and am reading my spreadsheet correctly, the offhand enchant works the same as the primary so yes, two +20 weapons would combine into a full +20 weapon.

No longer on Teras, but I could meet you on FWI if we can find a time.Unfortunately, neither of my accounts are Premium. Let me give some thought to what my options are (I do have access to Premium accounts) and get back to you.
I want to make this as painless as possible for you (since you're volunteering this info when you rightfully can tell us all to just stick it :D ).
[EDIT: Dur, why not just have my character in Wehnimer's move around. I'll bring him over to Illistim for you.]

Ah I get it, thanks. So half the weapon enchant is included in the parry DS formula (Weapon Skill + (Weapon Enchant / 2) + (STR Bonus / 4) + (DEX Bonus / 4)) before multiplying by the stance modifier.

Yes.
Further...
((your information)*bonus)*stancemod
For dual wielding...
You figure out the DS your main weapon gives (by the above information you have) and then add the offhand DS..
((Two Weapon Skill + (Weapon Enchant / 2) + (STR Bonus / 4) + (DEX Bonus / 4))/2)*stancemod
Note the /2 to the entire 'base'.
I also have a +5 DS thrown in there, I don't remember why but I'm sure I had a good reason. (mainhand + offhand + 5)

If you guys haven't read this yet, here's a post by Mark with another angle (most likely the correct one) on runestaff DS.

Yes, there is a +5 DS bonus for TWC. If you're interested I attached a spreadsheet I did a while ago that figures out TWC DS based on whatever inputs you give it. It didn't have weapon enchant before, but it's now been updated to include that. I haven't tested the revised version with my character yet but it should be right since the adjustment wasn't complicated.
Also, while this is for TWC, you can see the dodge and parry DS components laid out, so would be easy to modify and replace parry 2 with block DS or change to THW parry.
