I just got my first stye ever, my eye lid is swollen like a motherfucker, and bright red. I've been told all I need is a warm compress. Anyone else know what I can do? It hurts like hell.

Stop using other peoples eyeliner.

Go to the docs and get some antibiotics, and use eye drops.

Chop that shit off, put it under the pillow, and see if the toothless Swedish stye fairy comes to gum you in the midnight hours.

It's just a fucking pimple, you don't need antibiotics.

it's been three days, almost four. The thing has ruptured, but it keeps getting worse.
my eye is almost swollen shut, and it keeps draining over and over again :/

Styes are related to swine flu.

Like I said, antibiotics. Go see your doctor, he'll recommend something. My sister had the same thing happen to her a year ago, he put her on antibiotics and some type of medicated eye drops.

Yeah, I was just there he gave me antibiotics.
He told me to keep doing the warm compress, and it should get better soon.
My luck, the week I'm in Boston, and this shit happens.

Crazy, this is the one week that I left the greater Boston area.

Edit: Apparently it's technically metro Boston? Whatever, there.

They gave me drugs, and my eye kept getting worse!
So, I decided to go BACK to the hospital, where a different doctor decided to start "helping the pus" drain, said and I quote "Holy hell, I've never seen this much pus from a stye"
I guess my ENTIRE top eyelid has pus. :/ oh well, she drained most of it, it's still swollen, but it feels a WHOLE lot better. She put me on stronger medication, and gave me eye ointment.

The next time you get one do this at the beginning:

Take a handful of baby shampoo and slather it in both eyes. Rub it in the eye, forcing yourself to keep your eye open.. then rinse.

I used to get them all the time as a kid and that always worked. You just need to clean it out and the baby shampoo is so gentle you don't even cry!

Yeah, after I read up on it, J&J no tears baby shampoo, is suppose to do wonders. That, and a warm compress, is suppose to take it right away.
I've never had a stye, so I didn't know what the fuck was going on. lol

They suck.. they feel like someone has a finger in your eye all day. I never used warm compresses.. just the shampoo at the first sign of one. It always worked.

I'll give it a try if I ever get one again. Though, I'm praying I never have to take your advice. :)

Only time I ever had a stye was when back in HS when I slept in loads of eye makeup. Then again it only happened like..once.

They're soo annoying.

If ever there was an excuse to legitimately rock an eye patch, this is it. Get one and rock it likes its Talk Like a Pirate Day.

On a more serious note, I always thought a sty was like a little white head that grows on your eyelid and never goes away until you drain it. I've had a few, but they were always extremely small and after cleaning it out went away the next day. If you don't mess with it, it will NEVER go away, but once you do, it's gone.

Well, the kind I got was like this small little pimple thing, I mean super tiny, on my inner eyelid, kinda like on the lining.

I never did anything to it, just wash my eye and try not to bloody rub it.

Same. I didn't mess with it and after several months went by it seemed it would not go away unless I actively did something (Other than putting medication on it). So I took a sterile needle and broke the skin. There was no head on it, like a normal pimple, so you can't just squeeze it. Once I got the crud out of it, the sty was completely gone within a day or two. There was never any swelling beyond a small amount at the time of piercing the skin with the needle, and squeezing it a bit to empty the sty.
