Xaerve's right on the money IMO, I'd personally keep that puppy and get it further worked on at the CCF or future events. It's not like shaalk is going to be generating from the system and thus wont end up being a dime a dozen.

As soon as you hand it off to be worked on, it will be converted into vultite. It is what it is.

Is it possible to have an old style claid (vultite so not ice age) worked on (lightened or anything really) and returned old style still? If you talk with the merchant and they tell you you'll get it back old style still is that enough?

Yes. Old/New style doesn't legally require a change. Just like handing over an unconverted shield doesn't mean they have to change it to the proper base.

Not always, but usually. It all depends on the whim of the GM.
