I quit drinking rum and hard stuff in general however except for margaritas especially at teh beach.

Oh and expensive as shit. Back then I made 60kish after bonus a year (which isn't much I know) but if I could put all the money I spent on that from 10 years ago into an investment for retirement...

My sister lives in Nine Eagles in Oldsmar (I think it's Hillsborough county) off of racetrack road and has a awesome place and paid about half on their mortgage compared to our rent here. *she also has found a rattlesnake and an alligator in her screened in pool over the past 2 years...

There is no way in hell I'd bring my kids into where I'm staying at the moment. I carry a gun and I'm actually apprehensive about walking to Publix through this neighborhood ffs.

If you are making 60K a year.. 1K for rent is very doable. That should be well within your means as long as the rest of your expenses are within reason.

Other than commenting on the fact that there can be a lot of fluctuation that happens when you raise kids so your expenses aren't always considered normal, my statement was more a possible reason against your advice of "Living within your means is the key to success. If housing is a stretch to afford, then you need to find another place to live." It wasn't intended to directly address Sean's situation.

If you are making 60K a year.. 1K for rent is very doable. That should be well within your means as long as the rest of your expenses are within reason.

I live right down the street from your sister (probably 2-3 miles). I live in a community called Westchase, which is on the very west side of Tampa. I've lived in Florida for close to 20 years now and have never had to deal with any major reptiles.


I don't make 60k a year any longer. I think (without going back up to read it) that I either worded it incorrectly or you misread it.

My sister has also found a couple rattlesnakes in her screen enclosure/pool as well as deer trotting by and through the golf course. It's a very heavily wooded area surrounding those gated communities.

Agreed. However as I stated previously in a past post the hardheaded woman of the house refused to leave Dunedin at the time.

I'm not really complaining about the cost of the previous rental to be honest. It was fine until I lost my job. My only gripe was the electric bill and the noise from the traffic on alternate 19 that we were feet from.

It was blocks from the water. Minutes from the major beaches honeymoon and clearwater and was the perfect distance to one of the best elementary schools in the state. Fenced in back yard and the landlord allowed our large pets. It was prone to accidents in front of the house however late at night.

Ultimately one accident broke the straw when Jen finally got rear ended backing out of the driveway by a blind old man (no not PB) and totaled her vehicle.

If my sister and brother in law buy a new house I could rent their very nice home in Nine Eagles for the cost of their mortgage which is about $450. (golf course included!)

They're rich so they put a nice chunk down but didn't want to commit to it as they were undecided to have children or not at the time.

*like to also add that 60k a year with a family of four doesn't go that far especially when you're saving money to purchase a house cash style.

**daycare was just under $300 a week for two children as an example.
