Can sorcerer's be setup for box popping or melting effectively? I'm wondering if there's a good skillset to establish for a level 42 sorcerer that will not gimp him from being able to continue hunting, but will also make him proficient in disarming and opening boxes (via magic probably). Is the only skill check for those spells 407 and 408, your perception skill? I can 125 boxes already, but I've found that sometimes destroys the silvers inside...

I've had no problem using 416, 407, 408 with 30 ranks Elemental. There's zero additional training needed, unless you count Perception. But I'd single in Perception anyway.

125 doesn't completely destroy the silvers. It turns em into a rough slab of silver which you can sell to the gemshop. It's worth less than the amount of silver that was in the box, but you don't have to tip anyone, so it sort of evens out.

There is one more thing that is annoying with 125. When you zap a box with Call Lightning it will lock any scroll within the box. Personally I don't find too many scrolls within boxes but I am sure others
That being said, I normally just cast 704 on all non mithril and enruned boxes. If the box doesn't "Resist" my spell I drop it on the ground and let 125 take care of it

Isn't there one specific trap that 125 sets off and it pwns you? Glyph, right?

Yeah. Advantage of being a sorcerer is the ability to 704 to see if there's a glyph. 416 automatically sets off glyph traps (annoying) but 125 gets reflected (pwn).

You could also 416 the boxes to see if it has a scroll in it, and then if on of the boxes has scroll you could get that box picked if you don't want scrolls burnt.
Mine doubled perception too just incase :)
When he finds boxes he stows them and 704s them straight away. If they resist, drops them.
When resting incant 402, 416 the box twice for luck, 408 poison bugs, disease bugs, snap jaw and poison needle traps for the exp, if the bugs go wrong just 113 /114.
When safe 407 till done, or if not safe and can't disarm, 125 outside the gate.
Leave empty boxes on the floor to annoy people and then 705 or Ill VOID the rest that are trapped beyond your skills.
If you can't have what's inside, no one can.
Oh and if you get mithril or enruned boxes, 125 them and show me logs to study.
Cheers.

I head to the locksmith with mithril/enruned/glyphed boxes. Though that's only advisable when hunting critters that drop enough treasure to ensure you won't just constantly get screwed over.

:yeahthat:
My usually operation was to pop all the boxes I had with an exception of the above & scarabs, those I would just stash in a local locker and when I had enough I would take them to a locksmith friend or if I'm really needing to clear some locker space in a hurry a local. That said, I usually would clear about 80% of all the boxes I picked up by my self.
