armored evasion formula (Rank * (7 - Armor Group)) / 2.

Me wearing double leather (4 * (7 - 2)) / 2 = +10

Armored evasion bonus +10 and action penalty -6 gives me a total of +4 action bonus? Or does it bottom out at 0?

I suspect it bottoms out at 0, but this is pretty easy to test. Find someone with a lot of dodge ranks and put him in double leather and stance defensive with no shield. Swing at him before and after giving him armor evasion and compare the DS.

The multiplier on dodge DS for armor action penalty is -.005 the person's base dodge assuming the person is in defensive with no shield. Base dodge is dodge ranks + AGI bonus + (INT bonus / 4).

So for example say the person is capped and 2x dodge with AGI and INT bonuses of 25. That person's base dodge would be 202 + 25 + 6 = 233. Dodge DS before armor evasion would be 233 * (1 + (-.005 * 6)) = 226.

If the action penalty has a minimum of 0, dodge DS after armor evasion would be 233 (increase of 7). If the action penalty has no minimum, dodge DS after armor evasion would be 233 * (1 + (-.005 * -4)) = 237 (increase of 11).

Now these probably aren't the DS numbers you'll actually see if the person has spells etc. but all that matters in the change in DS which will be fixed depending on the person's base dodge.

You swing a closed fist at XXXXX!
AS: +93 vs DS: +680 with AvD: +17 + d100 roll: +44 = -526
A clean miss.
Roundtime: 3 sec.

XXXXX adjusts his black halfling leathers, improving its comfort and maneuverability.

You swing a closed fist at XXXXX!
AS: +93 vs DS: +688 with AvD: +17 + d100 roll: +18 = -560
A clean miss.
Roundtime: 3 sec.

Thats with 303 dodge, stance defensive.

Hmmm that's a bit odd.

Just using 25 for both AGI and INT bonuses (doesn't impact the numbers much), that's a base dodge of 334 before the armor penalty. After the standard armor penalty (6) dodge DS would be 334 * .97 = 323, and with no armor penalty it would be 334. So I would have expected an increase of 11 or so just from taking the action penalty to 0.

Was that definitely rank 4 of evasion that was applied? Or did he have a shield out?

XXXX, your Armor Specialization training is as follows:

Skill name Mnemonic Ranks
Armored Evasion evasion 4

Available Armor Training Points: 2

I had weapons out but just tested again with no weapons still a 8 DS difference.

8 is about right. It doesn't go lower than 0.

So as a sorcerer wearing doubles wearing 4 ranks of armored evasion. Training to 56 rank armor use won't help me at all.

ARMOR'd evasion isn't very rewarding for Studded leathers and down.

How many ranks of AU does this character have?

If the character has 140 AU ranks then the armor use overtraining benefits have already reduced the action penalty from -6 to -4.

(AG2 - 1) * 2 = 2 AP reduction

The armored evasion bonus is further reducing it from -4 to 0 and that might explain why there is only a gain of 8 DS.

Thats it. To have 4 ranks of armor evasion you need 140 armor use.

Yeah that's what I was missing, thanks Mark. Whew, for a second there I thought the dodge DS formula was wrong.

So I guess that answers the question. The AP can't go below 0 and provide a bonus.
