View Full Version : Signature Verb feedback

I'm trying to think up an idea for my signature verb, since my first one got shot down. If you guys want to offer any feedback, that'd be awesome.

Here's a couple of ideas:

Ignore: "Nuadjha turns toward {you} and gives {you} a slow, measuring look from head to toe, then deliberately turns his back on {you}."

Touch: "Nuadjha slowly strokes his hand down {bow}, then glances up with a dangerous glint in his eye."

Turn: "Nuadjha quickly spins around and raises one hand, a simple cantrip forming on his lips." (This is almost a spell-prep, but not quite. The prep itself would be normal.)

Spin: "Nuadjha twirls his {bow} between his fingers with great dexterity, humming a simple tune."

Glance: "Nuadjha glances around the room and then takes a step backward, fading into the shadows."

Raise hand: "Nuadjha wets his finger and then lifts it to test the direction of the air, his pointed ears cocked to pick up any sound."

Turn: "Nuadjha turns to go, the slight breeze from his passing swirling across his empty footsteps."

Whatcha think?

I -really- like the raise hand one, personally. It's the most generic in use, so there's no weirdness of doing something like using the spin or touch with, say, a non-bow object...and it's also a really nice simple addition to a rangerly repertoire. It's the sort of thing that, if I didn't know it was a signature verb, I'd totally ooc whisper "omg, what verb is that?"

Turn would be counter-intuitive to you slipping away without being noticed, since it displays your movement. I do like the ignore as well, but I think using the target's name three times would be a little repetitive.

I agree with her. Turn and raise are my favorite ones.

these are my two fav. im more of a sinister type player so anything that i can use to be a bit more evil or mysterious the better.

Ignore: "Nuadjha turns toward {you} and gives {you} a slow, measuring look from head to toe, then deliberately turns his back on {you}."
I agree this is a bit much... I'd update it like so (feel free to tweak)

You see:
You turn towards Soandso with a slow measuring look from head to toe, then deliberately turn your back on him/her.

Target sees:
Nuadjha turns toward you with a slow, measuring look from head to toe, then deliberately turns his back to you.

3rd Party:
Nuadjha turns toward Soandso with a slow, measuring look from head to toe, then deliberately turns his back on him/her.

I'd be willing to bet that unless they can specifically trap for a bow, there's no way in hell they'll give you a verb involving stroking, heh.

Well, the other part is.. Like with what Laph said, they have to be somewhat generic. "Fading into the shadows" is a skill with a spell or actual skill. Using an action verb wouldn't be able to do that. You have to be real careful with what you toss out there. Another thing with them is.. Using an item inside your signature (from what I understand) is a no-no as well. You might want to look into doing something less.. specific with yourself.

... Otherwise, they're all really well thought out and nice, but those things are picky as all hell.

I wanted to do something like this: "Nuadjha spins around and raises his bow to eye-level, smoothing nocking an arrow in the same motion." It involves two objects, though. I could probably do it with an EZ-script on my bow, according to Kaikala, but I don't want to ez-script something that can be stolen by an Ithzir or such (though it's already a 6x dcs longbow, so it'd be a huge pain to lose it as it is).

I agree this is a bit much... I'd update it like so (feel free to tweak)

Thanks for that fix, Celephais. It does sound better that way.

 Probably not.

He does that on his own.

:yeahthat: ;)

Thanks for all the input, guys. I think I'm leaning toward the "raise hand" one. I think I'll submit that and see if it flies.

I like the "outta my face" idea for him, truth be told.

Nuadjha glances at < person > and then makes a deliberate wide curve with his leg before putting his weight on it, turning around.

Why not a "talk to the hand" while you're at it, and a "No you di-tent"

Dear repper, more than one person can have it. It's a game, I'm not selfish, Rimalon has one as well.

I actually find it a kind of refreshing indicator of non favoritism. One would assume there's a fair amount of negative favoritism directed towards you with all your bullshit. Nice to see them rising above it.

I got my first one approved with only a minor modification... which was a nice surprise, since I had heard the QC process could be incredibly frustrating.

Cannel earnestly opens his mouth to speak, but after a rather pregnant pause, he mutters a few awkward syllables as a bright flush creeps across his face.

The only part I'm less than thrilled with is the beginning. Who "earnestly" opens their mouth? But that's what happens when you accept a suggested change at 3 in the morning, I guess.
