I used to own the 3x version of that. The flares truly are rare, but it was a great weapon for roleplay with my dwarven warrior. That and the Storm Hammer..which totally rocked.

The flares are rare as in they don't flare a lot or rare as in not many other weapons have them?

Both. The petrification flares hit once every 50ish swings or so, when I had one. The double strike flares are more frequent, but still don't go off very often.
