"Winter Is Coming... to HBO
At last it can be told.

The news has finally been made public, so I'm finally free to whoop and holler and share the great news -- the HBO pilot of A GAME OF THRONES will start filming in October, in Northern Ireland. The announcement was made in Belfast. Here you go:

http://www.northernireland.gov.uk/news/news-ofmdfm/news-ofmdfm-210409-hbo-to-film.htm

Yes, I'm thrilled. Ireland should be a great place to film. And the facility we'll be using, the Paint Hall, is amazing as well:

Before it was a film studio, the Paint Hall was part of Belfast's famous Harland & Wolff Shipyards, where the TITANIC and many other ships were constructed. The facility is pretty titanic as well. Of course, all of us connected with A GAME OF THRONES are hoping we'll fare somewhat better on our own maiden voyage.

Yes, Parris and I will be going over to Ireland this fall to see at least part of the filming. Not for the whole shoot, alas, I don't have time for that... but we have to be there for at least part of it. Maybe we'll see some of you in a Belfast pub.

There's lots of other exciting news on the pilot as well, but nothing I can share. Sorry, lips are sealed. You'll have to wait for Mr. Benioff and Mr. Weiss... and HBO."

If they do it right this will just be so awesome. So glad they're filming it semi-locally. I'm totally going to blag an extra part.

I might actually have to order HBO to watch this.

4 1000 page books...

After my utter hate for the Sword of Truth one Legends of the Seeker, i dunno what they can do i n one pilot. And Martin had a lot more plots and characters than you can shake a shaven yak at.

And I wish the the SoT one just get better, but getting thru 10 books is gonna be impossible unless they getting better ratings than i think.

I'm in; I don't give a fuck how bad it might be.

At least they won't (jesus fucking christ I hope not) make a Robert Jordan series/movie/pilot.

Fuck that dead guy. I wasted 4000 pages on that assclown before my friend told me the next 10289308043985904375407359483 pages were all the fucking same with more retardation.

I'm weirdly starting to feel the same about GRRM. At any point now where you begin to hope for something remotely good (as in good overcoming the baddies), the absolute opposite happens, or worse. It was thrilling in the first few books, but it's becoming a bit obvious now.

I think just about anything could be better than the Sword of Truth show.

They'd better get it right, and the old man needs to get to work.

HBO will put out much better quality show than Legend of the Seeker. That thing is a train wreck. But that MIGHT be caused by the fact that the author rewrites the same plot in every book.

I really enjoyed Rome, so I think I'll enjoy their adaptation of GRRM's work. The casting seems pretty good so far. No Jon Snow yet?

Jon Snow was one of the first to be cast. Kit Harrington.

Outstanding news!

And I'm glad I'm not the only one who felt ripped by the Jordan series.

Pleased as punch so far.

Some people on the Encyclopedia of Ice and Fire have been hating on the part of Dany being given to Tamzin Merchant, but I think she's a fine pick.

Lena Headey is Cersei Lannister.

I haven't seen her as a blonde, but looking at her facial features I think she's a GREAT pick.
