I'd like to take a shot at figuring out the formula for outside spells allowed in spellburst areas - OTF, Wyneb, the keen (and Nelemar if spellburst works the same way there).

To that end, I am wondering if people would post information relating to "bursting" in any of those areas.

The information (I think) we would need is:

(1) the location where the bursting took place
(2) profession
(3) # of ranks, total, of MIU, arcane symbols, and harness power
(4) what outside spells were active at the time of bursting

I'll start:

(1) aqueduct
(2) ranger
(3) 141 ranks
(4) 401, 406, 414, 509, 511, 911, small statue

It appears that either disks count against the total, or there is some really high modifier for rangers wearing strength and/or blurs.

It's the blurs. Blurs and mobility cost a lot for people outside those circles to wear.

Also, spellburst in Nelemar works exactly the same as the other places.

Thank you BW. It may be a while before I can do much work in Nelemar.

I remember reading that statues don't count against a person, but cannot recall whether disks do or not.

My hope is that with enough skill/spell combinations, the modifiers for some of the nasty ones like blurs can be determined.

disks do not count against you, small statues, the cubes, or the orbs....none of which count for spell burst. blurs is the one that no one can seem to figure out yet

My skills/3 equal 47, but I was only wearing 41 ranks.

It would also be helpful to know whether 401/406/414 have modifiers, or are just straight cost. If they are modified, I don't know if I can do the research using Graysun - without untraining all of his MIU and Harness.

Blurs absolutely destroys me. I think it counts for like 1089013 mana.

Blurs are definitely worth a ton. No idea why, though. The Spellburst formula seems in some parts based off formulas, and in some parts tweaked by GMs to make it less predictable.

4) i wear 401 / 414 / 503 / 509 / 202 all just fine, i just picked up 5 more ranks ( not counted in the 88 i listed ) this train not counted yet, but im myself trying to wear brights next! and one more train i can post for Maaghara's too.

Maaghara doesn't have spellburst, rather it seems to strip certain outside spells, mobility in particular.

Spell stripping uses something close to the bursting formula, but not really. As MammothWorm said, 618 seems to be targetted ASAP, like it is worth double mana or something. But you CAN wear it.

For burst, 911 is a lot more than 11 outside mana, something closer to 20-22. Heroism effs me over a lot, but I don't know for sure. And 618 is more than 18 mana. I think there are a few other spells that are more mana too. Mass Colors, however, are like 1-2 mana, not 11.

Bard spellsongs won't cause you to burst either.

GMs i believe have already said that mass spells such as guards and colors are their original costs not the mass cost...so guards = 14 and colors is SUPPOSED to = 1. which should be true considering with my math i wear 27-28 mana every hunt but trained for 25

No, it is nothing like DS. Is is closer to the burst formula, if anything.
