I hate >5 sec RT so whats that leave me for weapon choices? currently he really can't open ambush worth a shit which i cant figure out why. I really dig paladins but I need this guy fixed. help!

I'd actually recommend morning stars.

I assume he can't open ambush because he has neither ambush nor perception ranks.. I think CM + Ambush does open ambush..but i'm not 100% on that.

I think CM plays a big role...I have very little perception and no ambush on Thor and miss rarely on my aimed strikes.

Perception has nothing to do with ambushing from the open or hiding. Ambushing from the open is CM skill bonus + Ambush skill bonus x .25

Get some haste imbeds.

This is me at 35. Granted, I dont have any other skills other than for absolutely wrecking shit.. IE max tps for AS and DS (tower shield +divine shield + max shield use DS bonus). Tps are a bitch, but if you want to open ambush I highly recommend getting to 2x CM's and using a perfect mace. Im currently using a 4x perfect morning-star and swing at 363 AS with surge/signs and i have no trouble at all hunting level 42 critters, hell usually I one hit them if I can reach their head, even if they've just gen'd and are turtled. One thing I wish I would have done is had a perfect mace forged and bonded to that instead of the morningstar.. why? Because a mace is nearly the same AVD and DF as a morningstar and is crush only, i dont know how many times i've ambushed to the head for over 100 damage and get a goddamn puncture and not kill something. Also, alot of undead are immune to puncture. On top of that, maces swing faster, effectively increasing damage factor / RT ratio. Maces are also a smaller weapon and easier (iirc) to aim successfully.

Baerden (at level 35), your current skill bonuses and ranks (including all modifiers) are:
Skill Name | Current Current
| Bonus Ranks
Armor Use..........................| 172 72
Shield Use.........................| 174 74
Combat Maneuvers...................| 174 74
Blunt Weapons......................| 174 74
Physical Fitness...................| 132 36
Harness Power......................| 132 36
Perception.........................| 45 9
Climbing...........................| 90 20
Swimming...........................| 50 10

Spell Lists
Minor Spirit.......................| 6

Spell Lists
Paladin............................| 30
(Use SKILLS BASE to display unmodified ranks and goals)

Baerden, your Combat Maneuver training is as follows:

Skill name Mnemonic Ranks
Specialization I wspec1 4
Surge of Strength surge 4

Available Combat Maneuver Training Points: 11

Nice to see someone appreciating the most underrated weapon base in the game.

Speaking of that, where are my maces? :}

This is what im talking about...

You swing a perfect steel morning-star at a bog troll!
AS: +363 vs DS: +55 with AvD: +31 + d100 roll: +19 = +344
... and hit for 98 points of damage!
Beautiful shot pierces skull! Amazing the bog troll wasn't killed outright!
Roundtime: 6 sec.

Ugh.

I am actually considering bonding with a mace instead of a morning star once we get the annual fixskills and I can drop polearms. The Df on plate makes it tough though and I do have a sanctified mechanical flare (the permanent spring flares) mace i can use along side a bonded morning star.

Still haven't decided yet but not spending 15 cmans on precision would be nice.

Precision means absolutely jack when aiming (which kills far faster that blindly swinging imo). I'd get a perfect, use 1605, base 16% extra damage factor, add in lores.. and you've basically got a HCW mace with no crit randomization due to super jacked up DF. 1xing in lores will boost your mace DF from .175 against plate, to .220... I hope to 2x this lore but.. we'll see... 2x would only be .231 DF.. not sure if its worth the TP's for that though. Staying with a perfect will allow you to train for double plasma flares as well. By end game I hope to be THW with a perfect maul, boosting the DF of the maul from .300 against plate, to .396. There is a post that calculates how weighting compares in relation to DF increase but I cant be bothred to find it.

It does when you mstrike or just attack though =)

I swing a 7x perfect star myself and love it.

Perfect handaxe here.

I think you could drop the lores at your level and use the mental points for something else.

BTW I can open ambush with no ambush skill. I do train perception and CM 1x.

Perception doesn't effect open ambushing. I think it only effects aiming from hiding with ranged weapons.

It effects all aiming...with a weapon or not.

If you have 40 ranks of Perception
and You're CMans are good, you're going to be able to land open ambushes 90 something percent of the time. That's the best way to get to open ambushing with a paladin. Right now with my OHE I'm ambushing pretty reliably in 6s with 20 ranks and almost 2x Cmans...and that's at 26.

Warriorbird

Just effects ambush from hiding.
