Last week Gov. Palin gave a wonderful and very personal speech to an overflow audience at the annual banquet of Vanderburgh County Right to Life in Indiana. In the speech she shared some never-before-revealed information about the circumstances when she learned that her unborn child would have Down Syndrome.
Palin revealed more Thursday night, saying she was traveling when she got the result of the amniocentesis that revealed the chromosomal abnormality.
"There, just for a fleeting moment, I thought, I knew, 'Nobody knows me here. Nobody would ever know.'"
Palin has long been a staunch supporter of abortion restrictions, and she pointed to her own "moment of doubt" to illustrate her support for carrying pregnancies to term, regardless of the circumstances.
She prayed during her pregnancy for the strength and compassion to love a baby with an extra chromosome, she said at the dinner hosted by Vanderburgh County Right to Life, her first major public appearance this year. "The moment he was born, I knew for sure that my prayer was answered."

The fact that someone who has faith as strong as Palin's still felt a temptation is exactly why we need strong pro-life laws and a constitutional amendment to protect the unborn. No woman should have to make the decision that Gov. Palin bravely made. Proper laws can protect women in similar situations.
But our government is apparently not willing to allow people to engage in a discussion about the subject. RNC Chairman Michael Steele was at the banquet with Gov. Palin. What he reported from the banquet will shock everyone here. He said (last 60 seconds of the video) (http://www.foxnews.com/video/index.html?playerId=videolandingpage&streamingFormat=FLASH&referralObject=4435415) that he was sure there was an undercover agent at the banquet taking names and secret snapshots of people. That is not the sort of thing the government should be doing. I don't know why Michael Steele decided to reveal that he knew about the spy, but I feel certain that he has a logical strategy (http://briefingroom.thehill.com/2009/04/01/steele-gop-should-be-unpredictable/) that he government won't be able to figure out until it's too late.
I still think Michael Steele should resign as Chairman of the RNC because of his remarks about Rush Limbaugh, but if he keeps teaming up with Sarah Palin like this, then I might be able to tolerate him.
