So you can't get away with saying you don't, yourself provide torrents (they're from other people) and you disagree with it - BUT CLICK HERE FOR DOWNLOAD... anymore?

They really did get charged for an infrastructure.
I fucking hate Lars Olrich anyfuckingway.

It's still up. In fact the publicity caused by the trial and the conviction has increased their user-base quite considerably. They're now offering for $6 the ability to be completely annonymous. Heh, if like 10% of their user base goes this route, the fine will be paid off easily.

Fight Da Powa.

The RIAA is going to have to figure out how they're going to play in this environment because if they shut down the pirate bay, 10 sites replace it. Welcome to digital Martyrdom.

Killing sites and arrestting a few people a year isn't going to win this war of attrition. Not when people can pirate 5 or 6 albums in a matter of minutes.

You bastards.
The artists and their labels can't make fucking ZILLIONS to feed themselves if you stop filesharing like this!

I care about the artist getting theirs, to bad the RIAA and labels are getting more so out of principle I can't do anything to help the artist.

Artists generally make their money from touring and make a pittance from record sales (although if you sell a million records that adds up)

Yep, this is totally true. I think the studio's are going in the wrong direction (as are the game developers - RE: Spore's old DRM). They cannot fight and win this battle. They have to adapt to it.

Not as fast as you'd think, my brother in law worked at WB (he's since switched to a indie label) and you'd be shocked at how little even some of the bigger named artists get per album sale. Some of the bigger artists like the stones, metallica, etc have just recently gotten to a point (think it was a few years ago) where they dictated how much they got per album.

I'll admit, I do miss the piles of free CDs WB paid (probably indrectly the artists) for.

Yes, Spore's old DRM was over the top. But, I also think game developers are better off making games for consoles specifically because you just don't make as much due to pirating. Also, I think the maple story model of microtransactions will continue to cross over to all PC games. So you play Crysis for free, but you have to pay $1 for that new sight on your gun.

The record labels can go F themselves. They've been fucking over artists for the past 60+ years. The artists will still make their $ from touring.

Don't forget the whole MMO price structure as far as PC gaming goes. Pirate the MMO client and it pretty much costs them nothing, and they'll still hit you for a fixed charge monthly unless you're playing on a limited private server.

Yeah, there's been a handful of artists that can make huge percentages..I believe the beatles got a deal at the end, where they were getting 25%.. in return for 2 albums + 3 singles a year.. and instead they released two albums and broke up...

I've heard talk that some bands have made more from the rock band/guitar hero series royalties, than any single album they've put out..

Eh, there's going to be appeals that will extend this case for years.

Meanwhile, dozens of new torrent sites will pop up. Torrents are here to stay.

After they got pwnt, not only did they promise to appeal, but a sizable chunk of Sweden joined the Pirate Party. Membership rose 20%.
