I've been pretty lucky

Managed to get a long-term goal met today. Rimalon and Oravia won me Coldfire at the first Bergraham auction a couple winters ago:


a brightly blued rolaren falchion.

Treated and oiled so that a faint blue sheen pervades its natural luster, the glistening blade is long and improbably slender, seeming almost fragile save that it is made of strong rolaren. A basket-hilt of blued steel protects the mistwood hilt, each slender curve of metal carved and sculpted to mimic frozen flame. You also notice a small enchanter's glyph.
There appears to be something written on it.
In the Common language, it reads:

Impurities in the silver cast a rosy sheen like the first breaths of a new dawn over the edges of the sheath. An orb of warm orange amber, pure gleaming with firegolden motes within, completes the illusion. Toward the upper edge, whorls of tarnish artfully blacken the silver like racing stormclouds. Padding clad in pale blue satin glistens within, protecting the interior without sacrificing beauty for utility.

It started off 4x with plasma flares with a shoulder-worn scabbard. Since it was given to me, I had the flares removed, rehung the scabbard to belt-worn, and got it enchanted up to 7x. Today, Joldaf put the plasma flares back on it, letting it live up to its name. Sweet deal.

Wow what a finish, I got pretty much everything big but the basic armor enchant on the final day, and from the discussion on the inflated prices, I might not have been able to afford it anyway.

Really loved the #CCF channel on IRC, it was a LOT of help and I suggest everyone join it for the upcoming runs.

6 RPA from great storylines

My success at this festival was due almost entirely to the other festival-goers. In particular, a TON of thanks go to Rimalon, Mekion and Ziera (service sharing pools FTW!), and a really big shout-out goes to Mikoguchi as well for the permablessing. Everyone else who helped me out, I really appreciate it.

In ascending order of interest:

a perfect haon-hilted ora hunting knife - came to the festival plain 7x, left 8x with decent crit weighting and tier 1 Siolan scripts.

a perfect haon-hafted ora hatchet - came to the festival 8x with disruption flares, had the flares stripped, finished 8x and permablessed.

Once I come up with a suitable name/theme, I'll get these, my dual weapon-displaying belt and the 2 OHE enhancive wristguards altered into a matching set.

The only real disappointment of the festival was buying Amadicias' minor armor enchant spot only to have to give it up because the merchant was charging far too much to enchant my +32 hcp spiked aug chain. I might have been okay with the 12m the merchant wanted if I hadn't already agreed to pay Amadicias 15m for the spot itself. +5 DS ain't worth 27m to me, that's for sure.

So besides that, I thought the festival was a great success. From what I saw, it seemed like just about everyone got what they came for, and everyone seemed happy and helpful and cooperated very well. Kudos to us and kudos to the GMs.

Maybe you've never played a gnome, maybe you're just an ignorant judgmental clown who likes to point and laugh at what he doesn't understand.

- The offhand rapier is enhanced to add TWC ranks. This means it adds a good amount of AS to each hand.

- I use this rapier on every single hunt, dead or undead.

- I used to carry a minimum of 7 weapons at a time, the 1 enhancive rapier, 3 other blessed rapiers for which I'd have to pester clerics non stop, 1 boot dagger which I kept blessed for emergencies, and 2 flaring short swords for the living creatures.

- Since I used the enhancive rapier every hunt (dead or undead), it burned through blesses at an astounding rate.

- I also carried lockpicks, two wedges, a flask, acantha leaf, strength enhancive items, and little else.

- With the permablessed rapier, I can leave 2 normally blessed rapiers behind, freeing up 4 valuable pounds.

- If I'm hunting in a mixed dead/undead area such as harbs/steeds helping someone out. I put a flaring short sword in my right hand. Then I can use the SWAP command when a dead steed wanders in.

- Hunting undead, it makes no difference what hand the perma blessed weapon is in. I have no idea yet if the permabless weapon even has holy water flares yet, I haven't hunted with it yet. If it doesn't have holy water flares then I'd be better off with the permablessed in my left hand.

- It's a gnome, I don't get single shot kills ever. I hit things in the leg, knockdown/maybe stun with the first weapon, occasionally I get the kill with the offhand weapon. Most often, I hit it with both weapons, then try again.

- I've only been playing for a bit over a year. I don't have a 10x rapier of doom, nor any items nice enough to trade for the one decent rapier available at any cost. Thus, I must go the long route and build my own gear up from scratch.

- I may be able to buy enchanting spots at the upcoming festivals, or maybe even a friend will get it enchanted for me for free at an upcoming festival. I may just have to use premium points and take ten years to bring up the enchant on this rapier. I'm in no rush.

- Bottom line, this item being permablessed works out perfectly for the way I play this game.

So tell me again Vulva boy, what is your problem? Make sure you use the big font again so we can judge the extent of your moral outrage at my ignorance.

And to add to my list, I got the final lightening on my 7x vhcp doubles yesterday afternoon, down to 8 pounds now.
I got new spikes on my +18 impact flaring max lightened (38 pound) full plate this morning at about 2:30AM, thanks Keggie!
I also got a cleric doll that looks like me, and a totally sweet alter on a flask, which I posted in the fails thread already.

And just now I almost missed (from room order, and being TOTALLY afk) but got (from spinning) a hood on an armor concealer.

Cost of the raffle ticket covers the cost of the padding.

Cost of buying the slot also covers the cost of the padding...


So you either get lucky and spend about 50-100k on a ticket and win, then the padding is no extra charge, or you spend 40-50m on buying the auction, and once again pay no extra charge.

Three of those lightenings were only 1 lb. I thought they always did at least 2 lbs unless it was near its limit.

Bunch of crap overall. After all the time I sat in front of my computer. Spent about 3 mil on raffles and junk. I asked multiple times when the flare removal would be done with no reply. This should be my last pay event but thats what I said about the last EG. I guess I had a chance at something amazing with the raffles.

Any event like this, you're going to see a number of people who don't get many services, and a few who get the lions' share.

The allowance for sale of slots only polarized this more than usual.

Things changed on the last run from the first, as well. It was almost twenty hours, give or take, before the first merchant showed on the last run. They were going from pretty much out of the gate on the first.

Some last run merchants only worked once, and some at very odd times - wanted amulet holders unlocked? They were done so one time, and at something like 4:30 in the morning.

The merchants also did a lot of work on the last day, which some people probably didn't expect. A lot of that was unannounced as well.

Makes sense to me. Burnout is a bitch. You either wait until the last run and get your services on the cheap, but deal with burnout, or go to the first run and pay out the ass, but get the most services.

Yeah, I put in like 18 hours a day the whole week and I still feel a little dissapointed in the overall amount of general and some non-general servies on the last run.

I'm pretty sure it was a bad combo between severe burnout and a holiday weekend. A lot of the merchants were showing up only long enough to do their auctions/raffles and then ghosting out.

Some services weren't even offered. I never saw the scroll dude, for instance.

I will say though that in comparison to every other event I've been to (minus auction tiered events) all it takes is like two alters and I'll have received more work than usual. So in that sense both runs I went on were a success, and I did get quite a bit of work done, though I didn't win any great raffles on this last run :(.

Well I was on Sunday the whole day. But my philosophy now is, its far more cost effective to just buy stuff when people quit compared to the time/silver/cash spent at these events. Not that 3 mil is a lot of silver just would have taken a ton to get anything else done. Went in willing to spend 35 mil but I couldn't get flares removed to get mana vial flares and thats the only thing I had a shot at really.

For the first run, I would call it a day around 1 AM Thurs - Sun. I missed a merchant or two, but never a major service. Getting a good 6-7 hours of sleep a night made the difference between enjoying myself and getting totally burned out. As for services, I wanted stuff that you couldn't pick up second-hand. Alterations, AsG changes, etc to MY gear, not services added to other people's gear, then sold to me. That was the whole theme of the festival. To upgrade your own gear, as opposed to buying new crap.

Sounds like you guys got screwed on the Fourth run. Burnout nearly always happens with multiple-run festivals.

After putting in those crazy hours on the weekend, I barely played at all Mon-thurs. I just stopped caring. Picked up like 1-2 services in that span of time. Not much was offered, either, as the GM's said would be the case. This shift in them offering more services Mon-thurs is kind of lame.

I'll say this... the last run, I went in with very low expectations, despite my great luck on the first run. I figured there would be some burnout, and that my luck would be bad. I was on for a LOT of time, and Paul tooled me around a bit, too, when I couldn't be there. All told, I think I only missed being present for four of the announced services, and I entered every... single... raffle. I didn't get spun or chosen for anything above an alter or lighten. I only won a rolaren slab and an eonake slab. Everything else I got, I had to buy someone else's won slot.

And for all that... I came away thrilled. I got... I think... seven alters which were much nicer than usual. Five lightenings. Fluff scripts on my runestaff. Max lightened my leathers. DCW (purchased) on my waraxe. Morphing tattoo (purchased). Altered glimaerstone ring of WIN (with all credit going to Belnia). AND I qualify for the consolation prize! So I have some extremely nice choices.

So... I had horrid luck. But I put in my time, exchanged favors and coins, merchanted like crazy to try and get the things I really wanted, and completely ignored RP. And for all that, I'd go again this weekend if they announced a fifth run. Best event I've ever attended, by far (both runs).

And I hope they never do it again... can you imagine? Talk about ripping the market to shreds for high end gear. Next year everyone would grab three tickets (even if it's just for resale for profit to suckers like me). And everyone would have 8x crit weighted this and that. Scripts and alters GALORE. Something like this should come along once every 5 years or so, at most... IMHO.

Yep, unfortunately. I only qualify because I bought or traded for slots that other people won. I didn't even think about it until the end of the weekend, when I was tallying up what I had gotten done.

In addition to about 10 alterations. All told I ended up with 30+ merchant services. I did have some issues with the number of merchants on the third run. There were NONE for hours on end on Saturday and Sunday. I think scheduling it on a holiday weekend was a bad call on Simu's part.

My only other complaint is that I won the armor enchant on saturday morning, and the GM said he needed to get back to me on an estimate. I didn't want to buy anything from the CCF chat because I knew I'm looking at a significant charge to enchant the plate. Now, it's thursday, and still no word.

I got luckier on run 4 than I got on run 2.

All total, it's not a huge list, compared to some people, but I got the things I set out to get before the start of each run (I only had to buy 2 out of the 8 I wanted with 1 being an auction), so that's all that matters to me.

edit: Several people helped me out in this. Either by letting me know the service was about to be offered IG, in chat (or Belnia calling my phone), or in the case of the auction, by loaning me their coin hand (Paul), or by not being douchebags and driving the cost up (Lucos, Maodan, Durg, possibly more).

I was one of the ones complaining about lack of service as compared to first run.Look`n at all that i got done i have no reason to comlain and the Merchants did do alot of work on the final day so i thank them for that.The main thing i wanted was to permabless my +48 lance that i bought,got that and added a Might Dahcre on it to make it a full 10x.Guess im a Happy Panda too
