View Full Version : Augmented Chain or Hauberk?

One of the services I am hoping to receive at CCF is ASG-changing.

Right now I have some chain mail that was padded with premium points, and I am looking to take it up at least a couple ASG.

I am probably a year from reaching cap, when it will be much more comfortable to have 110 armor ranks than it would be now.

With the new overtraining mechanics, it appears that 110 ranks allows augmented chain to assume the manuever penalty of chain mail.

In consideration of the above, I am wondering whether I should take the chain mail up to augmented chain rather than all the way to hauberk.

Any opinions/suggestions?

I've been a fan of augmented chain for a while now. The jump in required AU ranks for aug chain-->hauberk is pretty substantial, and that's also the first AsG change that increases your hindrance by 2%. That being said, armored fluidity might have changed the game a bit. If you have any paladin friends and aren't worried about begging for fluidity every once in a while, the hindrance might be a non-issue. I have a casting build right now, so I'm probably gonna stick with my aug chain.

I like head coverage. Griffin drops or polearms to the face, a helm helps with both. I think if I were you, I would concur with Droit and make it augmented chain and continue to train in armor. Find a nice helm and then you have some room to manuever if you need to get hauberk coverage.

If I didn't have so many pressing post-cap goals, I'd train up to 110 AU ranks so that I could wear hauberk if I felt the need, but mostly to get the armor penalty of chain mail in aug chain.

The new armor mechanics definitely add appeal to augmented chain. A month ago I'd probably be leaning more toward hauberk.

After a couple levels in OTF wearing chain and greaves but no helm, I've taken one fatal garrote and three or four that resulted in 3rd-degree neck bleeders. Carried weight, even before hitting any encumbrance, appears to make a big difference.

Put it this way, Graysun. If I can score that AsG service, I'm bringing my hauberk down to aug chain.

For the AP reduction, Mario?

That and spell failure. I'm a casting rogue. I am sick of 12%.
