2 major surgeries and my Mom dying without warning made my life the past year seem horrid. But suddenly I realize, it really ISN'T that bad.

It will be slow but I will eventually be at least 90% physically again, and missing my Mom always hurts but I am learning to deal with it.

Here is where I realized my life doesn't suck.

My best friend Elena was over here just now and was venting about her husband. We get talking and she tells me why her life is not so rosy.

She has lupus, a disease with no cure that can be mild or fatal. She doesn't know which she has yet.

Her sister AND uncle have both been diagnosed with cancer this week. Her uncle's is fatal, she doesn't know about her sister.

She has been told she is not allowed to get pregnant ever again because of her disease and how her treatments work.

I will be there for her as a friend, but I hate it when people you love go through things like this and there isn't a damn thing you can do about it.

Isn't it funny how you may think someone's life is perfect and in one moment you realize they are struggling too and maybe even worse than yourself?

You have already done your friend a great service of being there to listen and commiserate with her.

We cannot simply go up to anyone and unload all these problems. Thats what our close friends are for.

So good for you for being there for her.

Sometimes a dose of "it could be a lot worse" is necessary. Help your friend create some special new memories. It will be good for the both of you, and give you something cheerful to focus on. Maybe a girls' day out getting your nails done, or if you can't afford to treat her, spend it at home doing each others' nails and watching chick flicks or something. Eat cheesecake and be silly.

We try to do that stuff, hard with three kids between us. She is a life lover though, and so fun to be around. We are good for each other. Wish more people took life with a grain of salt like she does.

You are anything but useless, hon. There is nothing more valued in times of trouble than a beloved and caring friend. The gift you give her with your friendship is immeasurable.

HarmNone is sorry for your friend's troubles, and for your misfortunes, as well :(

You could be a RedSox fan and seen the best player in baseball get bought by the evil empire of steinbrenner..Then you'll know true misury!
