I  my state. At least until the protests start, and the evangelicals try to get a constitutional amendment banning it.

I fail to see how it's just protestants, I'm sure they'll be some catholic people who feel the same way.

You're generalizing too. Not all protestants are evangelicals.

Majority of them are, but you are right not all of them are. :) It's good to see that this is passing somewhere, as they couldn't get it to stick here...

In SAN FRANCISCO of all places.

I wonder if tax laws are amended to account for same sex marriages.

IMO it's about time for the govnt to get out of the business of sanctioning marriage. Until they can figure that out though, yay for Iowa, Connecticut, and Mass!

Still amazed at California whenever it comes up in conversation.

I really don't get why the religious people care so much. If you think someone is going to burn in hell, let them burn.

That sounds an awful lot like effort.

Allows them to shift focus from their own lives to the evilness of others', and thus allows them to feel superior, righteous, and going-to-heaven-ish.

Or, theres a plethora of closeted individuals who turn towards the religion in order to attempt to squelch their own feelings. Mingling with other like-minded haters helps them repress and feel better about their gayness.

So ..you're saying...people against gay marriage are self hating gays who have joined far right religious organizations? I cant tell if you're being sarcastic.

So long as we have Federal and State tax laws, I'm ok with Government involvement in any civil union. Unless they make it so that there are no unique rules for those married versus those not married.

I'm not sure what you mean by that. There are always unique tax rules for married people vs not married. It's called filing status (married filing joint/single vs single or HoH).

I'm going to have to give up posting is this is truly the reputation I have. Ok, maybe not.

Really depends what SHM is saying. If he's saying "I'm ok with man-woman married couples to have tax perks related to being married*, but not ok with same sex married couples having the same perks", yea, I'll take issue. If he's saying "There are laws that need to be addressed to acommodate same sex couples, as they specifically mention husband and wife or man and woman", I honestly don't know if there are or not, and this is a logical statement with which I take no issue.

*There really are few, if any. Regarding income tax, most couples would be better off not married - even more so with one filing head of household if children are present. The exception to that would be if one is a stay at home parent. Regarding SS, there is definitely a perk, as if one dies, the other is entitled to the higher of the two's SS.

Sorry, I didn't describe well. I was on my way out. Step 1: civil union for those in a partnership desiring "marriage" in the state's laws. File your paperwork with your state for taxes etc. The state says "yep, you're both human, go on through."

Step 2: go to your ascribed religion and say "I'd like to get married." Pay them and be recognized by them as being married by them.

I second the motion that G should get out of sanctioning marriage, except in cases of someone trying to marry a non-human.

Ding ding ding. You got it.

There's women who do the same thing- they love the cock too much, so they turn to a religion that tells them not to. I love these women. Often.
