The expansion to the first Diablo game, while not made by Blizzard, included the bard as a hidden character.

Well they had bards in the hellfire expansion for Diablo I... having "Identify" as your special ability kicked ass. The fact that they turned around on that and didn't have them in Diablo II really hurt me.
