From what I been reading, you get a number which you register with Google and forward all your phones to it to have one central phone unit. It also stores voicemail from all phones onto a central VM system through the Voice system as well as your SMS txt msgs.

The information Google has on their site feels like gibberish still, and I haven't been able to piece anything more together from what I already know. I'm in the invite list, so I should get to play with it soon.
