Well, even though A-Rod is the best shortstop in baseball today, I still hate him. So, here's one Yankee fan that isn't happy about the trade.
The rumors I heard have A-Rod playing 3rd base. Is that what's supposed to happen? (I haven't read anything definite on the net yet)

Face it - Football is now America's game.
Fuck baseball. Any game where the majority of the players on the field are just standing around scratching their balls, is not worthy of the title "America's past time".

Baseball is still the national passtime in my books. The only reason football is more popular now is because it is a better sport to watch on TV, while attending baseball games is a lot better then football (And I have season tickets to the Eagles, so I think I can say I'm impartial.) Watching football on TV is a lot better then watching it in the stadium from a 'what's going on' standpoint.. But the electricity counters it out and makes it worth every penny to be there =)

Are you serious? Every time I've gone to a Red Sox game, I've almost fallen asleep by the sixth inning, one time actually nodding off in the 4th.
And supposedly Fenway is a great place to see a game. Now, on the other hand, my family has been Bills season ticket holders since 1989, and watching football at the stadium...now that's something.
Comeback game of '93? Best game ever, of any sport, as far as I'm concerned.

I have to agree with you...I've been to couple of games..my last one was back in 91 though..Yankees vs. Orioles...and it was a good time. But I love watching football. It's hard to appreciate what's going on it you're seated down by like the end zone or something, but our tickets are around the 45 yard line, and we're on the third tier so we get an excellent view of everything. I have to say..the last game I went to..the AFC Championship game..that was hands down the BEST time I've ever had at ANY event..this includes all sports, concerts, etc. The atmosphere, the other fans, oh yeah and let's not forget watching the Pats spank the Colts ::hides::

I have no love left for football, baseball or hockey...all I loved to watch at one time. That is, until the greedy bastards kept wanting more money and they went on strike; therefore, cancelling the season.
Fuck those pampered millionare bitches. If it wasn't for Fantasy Football, I'd never watch any of the games. The only sport I really watch anymore is NASCAR. What I like is, if you get a contract for all this money and don't perform, fuck you...find another team. If you run your whiney ass mouth....pack your bags or get your ass whipped.
Yeah, they go around in circles but hey, just when you start to get bored, BAM!!! A 10 car pile up happens. A fight breaks out in the pits. Guys cussing in some foriegn southern dilect making no sense whatsoever but funny as hell to listen to. Now that's how sports should be.

What I mean about it being better is that you can see and follow a baseball game much better while there then you can see and follow a football game.. espicially if you got 700 level endzone seats at the Vet =) I have more fun going to Eagles games then Phillies games, but the actual viewing aspect is better for baseball from my point of view.

The greatest part of this trade is they are moving Arod to 3rd,and keeping Jeter at SS. Its the only saving grace of the whole thing. Jeters defense is average at best and Arod is a gold glove winner. Hahahaha

Miracle was only a good game because of the political background because of it. There's no such thing as an unbeatable team, as witnessed by the Dream Team's collapse at the World Championships a few years ago.
Game 6 only because of the curse of the Bambino.
As a single game, the comeback game is by far and away better than those two. From the absolute depths of despair, we fought back.
Maybe it's because I was there, and my dad wanted to leave at the half, and I said, "Let's just stay til the end of the third quarter"...at the end of which we had scored 28 points or something, and were only down by a touch by then, and people could feel it in the air.
The sheer, utter magnitude of it was amazing. As Chris Berman says, no one circles the wagons, like the Buffalo Bills.

From the absolute depths of despair, we fought back. Two outs, bottom of the tenth, two strikes, down two runs. That's just about as deep as you can get. I'm probably biased, though, on account of my Mets winning a World Series is a phenomenon anyway. :(

2. Red Sox are still a better team, Yankees gave up alot to get Rodriguez yes they're better for it but not by alot. Red Sox have the last A.L 2 batting champions(mueller, ramirez), arguably the 2 best pitchers in baseball(martinez, schilling), the deepest bullpen best defensive infield in baseball(mueller, nomah, and reese with a very underrated millar at 1st) , and 2 top Def OFs in Nixon and Damon.
3. Nice rotation NY has hahaha.

I'm really looking forward to the up and coming baseball season. But I have to say..as stacked as the Red Sox and Yankees are..I don't think either of them will even make it to the World Series this year. I'm thinking it's going to be Anaheim from the AL. I haven't been following the NL much, but the buzz I hear leads me to believe Houston is the team. ::pauses momentarily to laugh some more at Latrinsorm and all the other Mets fans::
Anyway, being a Yankee fan, I've done the unthinkable and sold my soul to the Devil. I'm actually going to a few Sox games...I think the first one I'm going to is in mid April, against the Orioles. Then I'm going to watch them beat on the Devil Rays for comic relief. I won't be able to go watch them play my beloved Yankees :sniffle: because I fear for my life.

I agree with Mint. It's all about the Mariners.
But seriously the Yankees screwed themselves. Arod and Jeter are such egotistical bastards each is going to hate the other one so much, this move will cause nothing but tension and problems. I don't care if everyone believes they are best friends Arod will hate Jeter because he is playing short stop, it's that simple. Watch and see.
Weedmage Princess
02-17-2004, 07:35 PM
Aye on A-Rod being egotistical. Nay on Jeter, though. Jeter's a very level-headed, down to Earth type guy.
However, the true test will come if/when Jeter has a slump...because you know the minute Jeter makes one tiny mistake, people are going to start screaming "A-Rod should be shortstop, move Jeter to 3rd base!" So...we'll see.

I'll tell you, Boston still has a hella good team there, but as long as the Yankees pitching doesn't collapse they are going to be pretty damned hard to stop.
Weedmage Princess
02-17-2004, 07:44 PM
Well, Latrinsorm..my theory on that is that because while A-Rod may be the better baseball player, that team is Jeter's. He's the captain, he's the guy who answers all the questions before and after the game, he's the fan favorite in New York.. when you think about someone who represents that organization, Jeter comes to mind. He came up through their system, and I think he'll be there, from beginning to the end. He IS the Yankees, for the most part..so while yes, A-Rod's the better shortstop, Jeter is inevitably (sp?) the most valuable player on that team.
Oh and Piazza blows...muahaha
Skirm, I agree..Boston is stacked, still...yes the Yanks have a lineup that's the equivelent of...God...but, Boston's not slouching...Nomar, Varitek, Nixon, Damon, Ortiz and Manny...that ain't nothing to scoff at. And their pitching as of now..is better than the Yankees. Our bullpen sucks, and the Red Sox made some improvements to theirs.
Also, I just heard that Steinbrenner denied that the Yanks are in talks with Maddux.
Hulkein
02-17-2004, 08:01 PM
Yeah you're right about Jeter Weedmage, that's exactly why he won't move. I also think it speaks volumes about A-Rod and his desire to win to switch to third base without any question. At this point of his career he's already possibly the best SS of all time.
Glavenfyre
02-17-2004, 09:25 PM
You are giving Torre/Steinbrenner way too many human emotions here. Steinbrenner definately doesn't care who the fan favorite is in anything more than the sense that he is a capitalist. Since the Yankee fans don't outwardly seem to posses nearly as much loyalty as you suggest (They openly boo pretty much any of their players whenever they get into a little slump), Jeter will not stay at shortstop unless everything goes perfectly. Sure Jeter will be shortstop at first, but if things start looking less than perfect management is going to start looking to make a change, and Arod to shortstop will be one of the firsts.
As a Mariners fan I really don't like the Yanks, but I dislike Arod even more. That being said Arod possesses an insane amount of talent and I can't wait for the season to start, it will actually be interesting to follow them for once. Especially since I just know they are going to self-destruct. It's glorious watching an opposing team--who should, by all means, destroy anything that is placed in its way--fail miserably.

I have a friend, diehard Red Sox fan, who has a poster of Derek Jeter up on his bedroom wall.
Except he cut out a picture of a dog with its tongue out, and placed it strategically close to Derek's balls, and fashioned a collar that said Tim McCarver (or is it Tim Carver? I can never remember).
And he used paper to cover up the "ere" in Derek" with "ic" and the "J" in Jeter with a "B". Now, if only we can convince Jeter to spell his last name Jeater.
