Dear Daniel ---,

I am delighted to inform you that your application for admission to the Master of Public Affairs at Sciences Po for the 2009-2010 academic year has been successful.

Your admission offer is based on the information you provided to be considered for admission. We remind you that prior to registration at Sciences Po, you will have to present the original transcripts and diplomas received at the end of your Bachelors and/or Masters degree. If you fail to do so, we will unfortunately have to rescind our offer of admission. Registration will be possible beginning July 2009.

You will receive an official admissions letter from us, with documents outlining further steps you must now take and information facilitating your arrival in France.

The PDF version of your admissions letter will be attached to your application as soon as it is signed.

Kind regards,

Erhard Friedberg
Director
Master of Public Affairs
Sciences Po

Sciences Po alumni and former staff include twenty-eight heads of state or government, specifically the two immediate past French presidents (Jacques Chirac and François Mitterrand), thirteen past or present French prime ministers, twelve past or present foreign heads of state or government, and a former United Nations Secretary-General. Nearly every French politician or diplomat has attended Sciences Po since its inception; however the school has also educated fourteen current CEOs of France's forty largest companies. Graduates of Sciences Po are usually referred to as Sciences Po.

Some French students further their studies at École nationale d'administration (ENA), which is often viewed as the compulsory educational step before serving in French politics or diplomacy. The vast majority of teachers and professors working in Sciences Po are alumni.

You're going to be at a hell of a location in Paris. Is it a program taught (or dual-taught) in English, then?

It's taught in english but I can take any graduate course at science po. I have to decide between this and the Fletcher school. It's gonna be tough.

Terrific opportunity, congratulations!

I am constantly reminded of the amazing abilities of PC members. I would have thought all those years of GS would have rotted your brains, but NO!

So,

As an update. I turned down both Fletcher and Science Po for a better opportunity in the government. Essentially I'm getting paid good money to do what I want to do with my life, without grad school. Thus, grad school is off the books now indefinitely, which means I'll go when I get bored and want to do something else, like work for the international red cross in 3-4 years.

Everyone I know who goes to Fletcher is a raging douchebag anyways.

I'm pondering the idea of going to get my MPP at Harvard. Why not?

Fletcher has more D-bags than harvard?

Lol. right.

Anyway, It depends on what you wanna do with your degree. I'd say don't bother. The degree is just your foot in the door and a check the block, the rest is on you. Since you already have the check the block you can probably get your foot in the door otherwise. Especially with Peace Corps.

I'll be based out of DC. However, I'm on 48 hour deployment recall. So, depending on how the world goes I may be travelling a lot.

Work experience > Letters after your name Yes and no, you need a balance. Try having 10 years of real world experience with no letters after your name. Apparently a BS is greater than a USMC....

Workin on it, IWU is trying to figure out what my military stuff is worth credit wise and they need to figure out what credits they will take from the university I attended while I was in. I think I'll get 2 years or so knocked on once it's all said and done. Having spent some time on campuses as well as spending time with college students and grads it's frustating as fuck that what they did for four years is worth more than what I did you know? Of course you don't because you are a dirty hippy. :)
