So I've been reading on the officials.
WTF does brawling really do?
I thought..
If I train in brawling, that my defense will go up with 40 ranks.
So I am confused.
Does brawling help me in any way?
I use shatter on everything except the constructs.
I swing a 2hander at the constructs.
I figured with brawling, my defense would sky rocket, when I cast with a brawling weapon in hand. Then I just switch over to my maul when needed.
I'm so confused.

Parrying an attack is generally done with a weapon, and can be encouraged through training in that weapon's associated skill or skills. Increased strength and dexterity also contribute to success. Unlike other weapons, using a two-handed weapon increases success chances by 50%.
Ok then...
Since I'm already maxed with 2h, I don't need to train in brawling, at all?
I'm just looking for something to train in.

You only get the two-hand weapon parry DS while holding a two-handed weapon. Once you switch to a brawling weapon or no weapon, the amount of parry DS is recalculated for that situation. You can't have both simultaneously.
With a two-hander you get a 50% bonus compared to an equivalent number of weapon ranks for brawl, OHE, OHB etc. Additionally, the weapon enchant bonus is also significantly higher for two-handers.
You do gain some parry DS with brawling but not nearly as much as you have with the maul.

So.
If I max out brawling? Do I need a runestaff, maul or just go bare handed while hunting?

I'm not entirely sure why you can't manage to write a coherent sentence, nor why this is so hard for you to understand. However, to answer the question as simply as possible, you're not going to get any benefit from training in brawling if you carry anything other than a brawling weapon (or no weapon) in your right hand. When holding any other type of weapon, only your skill in that weapon type helps parry DS.

Someone didn't read the play.net's description of the skill. As quoted below:
"Brawling
Brawling is skill in hand-to-hand fighting. It consists of bare-fisted combat, punching, hitting, and striking other targets. This skill is useful if you must defend yourself without a weapon, but there are also a wide variety of brawling weapons which can be used to enhance your brawling skill."
And the various brawling weapons: https://www.play.net/gs4/info/armory/brawling.asp
