No more EGM. Feburary came and went without me getting my issue. I WTF Mate? 'd until March and still nothing. Checked out online and the mag's website 1up.com got bought out, and they stopped publishing. No warning at all. I've been reading this magazine on and off since I was a kid.

EGM was closed on January 6, 2009, following the acquisition of the online element of the 1UP network by Hearst Corporation (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hearst_Corporation). It was announced that the January 2009 issue would be the final issue of EGM.[1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electronic_Gaming_Monthly#cite_note-0)[2] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electronic_Gaming_Monthly#cite_note-Gamespot20090107-1) The unpublished February issue, which would have featured the video game Street Fighter IV (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Street_Fighter_IV) on the cover, will be released for free online.[3] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electronic_Gaming_Monthly#cite_note-2)

Anyone have a replacement suggestion? I don't like single console mags. That leaves what? Game Informer and Game Pro?

I always thought game informer will keep you up to date on gaming news better then EGM but their reviews aren't as good.

The local newspaper that I've read since I was a teenager is going out of business soon too. RIP the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. Fucking internet is killing hard copy in a lot of categories it seems. I absolutely loathe the PI's rival, the Seattle Times, so I don't know what I will read now.

Agreed. I don't like going to the internet for my console gaming news. I prefer that as ..ahem..bathroom reading.

Game Informer is ok, I don't really care for the reviews.

I haven't read Game Informer but it's gotta be better than GamePro. GamePro is aimed at the 10-16 y/o market.

I stopped reading them monthly when the best game magazine ever went under:

Yeah, GameFan was the best. I was reading EGM forever, until I was 18. I currently have a subscription to GameInformer.

:( I read EGM forever. Haven't subscribed for a few years, but I was kicking around the idea since I finally got a 360.

So do they, like... refund your subscription fee?

They probably follow the business ethics of many other defunct outfits...you know, the one that dares the customer to try and collect and then laughs at them.

Heh. 1up.com still has the sign up for EGM on their page. If I signed up and didn't get a SINGLE subscription THEN I would be pissed. I got mine for joining Game Crazy MVP program.

Yeah, this kind of sucks. I'd suggest game developer magazine. It's lighter on the review side, but provides more insight into the industry, and has some great interviews.

Personally, most of game "journalism" is a joke, but EGM was pretty good.
