It's a rough time for sure, but one things really irks me. In the article it says they have to walk 3 miles to buy bottled water from a gas station.
A few things:
1) If they are truly buying bottled water, I wouldn't consider them destitute.
2) Tap water not good enough? (I say this because most gas stations have a hose)
3) They are on a lake, you can boil water
All that said, I think right now most people are taking advantage of the crisis to plead their plight. I feel very strongly that people who bought homes they should not have are appropriately being displaced. I feel bad for those that lost their job and now are in danger of or have lost their homes. There is a distinct difference to me. Those who lost it because they bought something they shouldn't have, too bad.
There are legitimate folks out there going through hard times, and for them I feel bad. I don't feel bad for someone buying bottled water at a buck or two a bottle.
I hope the economy picks up, and soon, but I don't think it will. My Dad lived in the great depression, and he's convinced it's going to happen again. Kind of scary, and I truly hope for our country and the rest of the world, that things pick up and go well. I cannot imagine not being able to find a good paying job.
