I work so hard to dispel stereotypes. I'm taller than 5'4, I can lift more than a bag of rice, I have a deep voice with no accent...and this fucker ruins it in 2 minutes of limb flailing.

Although I have ordered a t-shirt.

...this is why I don't watch TV. I have to admit the clip was pretty amusing, though.

It's one of your people Vinh, damn viets. You guys are a disgrace to the Asian race, haha!

P.S. Vinh knows I  him.

I was laughing so hard!

It's funny... I was watching when he was on American Idol.. and I actually thought about Edaarin.

Made me chuckle.

It's funny for the first couple of weeks when they have to listen to the bad singers. After that it's a boring race to see who becomes the next one hit wonder.

Thanks for the link though. I had missed that stunning performance.

It's just all around great.

The singing part is so akward, but even better is the interview beforehand.

This is only topped by the incredible face he makes when he is finally told to stop.

And the icing on the cake? Him trucking off with that gigantic yellow backpack at the end.

An instant classic.

Ugh.

Atlanteax
03-15-2004, 01:45 PM
Btw, he actually did get a record deal (not from American Idol).

Apparently the producers feels that he'll be able to sell a lot of songs, particularly if listeners are "entertained" by the way Hung warps it.

There will be a Hung CD release in the near future.

DeV

Oh well.. At least I could say.. he's edaarin's homeboy.

My Asian boyfriend was severely embarrassed, but I was mightily entertained by the website, heh. You guys need to get a grip. I'm not embarrassed every time I hear about fifteen new Cubans floating over in an old Camaro. That's them, not me. And that's um.. Hung.. not you guys. Seriously, if I were Asian and someone asked me to dance around like a monkey and butcher a song, I'd just let it roll off my back.

As if you guys don't have enough good press? Sometimes it seems like half the children in America's life long dream is going to Japan. Or owning a rice car with some random Chinese characters sprinkled across the back window. Being Asian is in, man. One little William Hung, who undoubtedly will die out soon enough, is not going to shake the grip of "I want to be AzN!" on America.

(Edited so I could properly capitalize 'AzN'.)

I saw the show when William made his first appearance. Quite amusing. Great personality. I was entertained.

I think things may be getting out of control though.

How long until it gets old and you say William who?

I am so glad for that edit button.

As I said last month, Americans are strange. I'm speculating that there's just enough people out there to find the manner in which he sings so badly, to be so funny as to be worth buying the CDs to listen to.

However, I fully expect this phenomen to "get old, fast" as no one will really want to listen to someone singing so horribly.

Still goes a long way to demonstrating how stupid some Americans can be with blowing their money on crap (Hung CDs), and instead keeping alive a phenomen that deserves to die a quick death.

hahaha, I saw that too Raven.. He is pathetic at singing, but he's also the goofiest looking dude ever. His mic was turned down too low, I think the FCC had something to do with it, they didn't want to offend anyone with his full volumed voice.

That was very good to read. You know, I really had no idea there was still such a problem with Asian stereotypes. I thought the initial comment was more tongue in cheek though I suppose I should have known better, all things considered.

My apologies for contributing to the problem, even in jest.

I dont think its racist. On Jay Leno the other day i saw a poor white trash security guard guy on who wasnt too bright. Its funny because they have no social ability at all. No one thinks thats racist do they?

So. By the grace of my stupid roommates who love to stick it to me for some reason, I am now the proud owner of William Hung's Inspiration, a 2 CD freak of nature that also came with his American Idol performance (and more) on DVD. I listened to about half the tracks before I took the CD out for fear that it would kill my computer.

He's been taking singing lessons, but they don't show. For those of you who are curious, these are the song titles if you want to download them from a P2P or something. FYI, it's the #16 top seller on Amazon.com and top 40 on the Billboards.

1. Words of Gratitude
2. She Bangs
3. Bailamos
4. Passions
5. (a mind numbing rendition of ) I Believe I Can Fly
6. Hotel California
7. Can You Feel the Love Tonight (YES THE LION KING SONG WTF)
8. Two Worlds
9. Perseverance
10. Rocket Man (ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME, STEWIE ON FAMILY GUY DID A BETTER JOB)
11. Free
12. Circle of Life (I guess he really likes the Lion King)
13. Be Yourself
14. YMCA (I don't even have a joke for this one)
15. Shake Your Bon-Bon

If you'll excuse me, I'm going to go light myself on fire.

EDIT: Amazon.com has some clips available. This one is I Believe I Can Fly, listen at your own peril.

I'm sorry...I was doing my econ hmwk and listening to this CD...I HAD to bump this thread after sitting through this painful 5 minute rendition of I Believe I Can Fly.

Listening to him try to hit those high notes makes me want to gouge my eyes out. It sounds like really, really bad karaoke. Really really really bad.

You know that part where R. Kelly goes Oooohooooooohoooohoh? Right before "If I can see it, then I can do it. If I just believe it, there's nothing to it"? There are no words to describe the unintentional comedy factor here.

EDIT: The end of the song has left me speechless. His voice cracks like 6 times.
