The trick is to get enough of your co-workers to come with you that no one cares if you're half dead the next day. I'm going with a sizable crowd. That, and take a damned nap before hand, granny.

It's just that there is no such thing anymore [for me] of a movie worth seeing at the crack of dawn just to say you saw it early. Yeah, I'm not 20 anymore. Seeing it Friday night is good enough.

If I didn't have to work tomorrow I'd go. So far I've seen mixed reviews of the film. I have a feeling that the people who aren't familiar with the GN are gonna hate it.

I have to be up at 4 am and slept crappy last night. So, no midnight showings for me.

You must work with food, too. Tough time to wake up, but I'm there with ya.
The only thing that'll keep me up at midnight when I have to get up at 4 is sex. Be sure to enjoy that not sleeping thing, for a movie and some popcorn.

I like seeing movies at Midnight because you know people aren't going to fuck up the movie. Sure, they're a bunch of fanboys/girls, but that means there isn't going to be some fuck on their cell because some 300 pound dude in a Warshaq outfit would go tell the manager. That, and I believe the atmosphere is better when you're in a theatre of people who all are the target audience. Maybe that's just me.

No, that does make sense...if you are in your teens or twenties maybe. I doubt a bunch of 30 to 40-something career minded folks are going to attend this, even though that should be the target age group. ~shrugs~ Look, no offense seriously, but in this economic climate I can't afford to be spending cash on a pretty much unseen movie and secondly, showing up to work performing like a half-dead zombie.
Five years ago, I'd have asked what theater you were going to watch it at.

Ha, yes on both accounts. I have been known to give the threat of "If you wait till after midnight to come to bed, I will not be on top, and I will not be having a snack with you afterwards."
And yeah, I've never particularly enjoyed midnight showings unless it's something I'm DYING to see and go with a bunch of friends.. which is not the case here.

I thought the movie was enjoyable, but could have done with some editing. There were from what I was told some minor changes to how the story unfolds, and obviously some parts were omitted, though it seems to have stayed faithful to the key elements of the story.
Most of the music in the movie did NOT fit the scenes they were placed over. I thought that was the single most damaging aspect of the film. There was some grituitous sex scenes, so that is either good or bad. The acting was fair, with some strong cast members and some weak ones. Downy Jr. had a weak scene where he was supposed to be crying. That came off as a bit lame.
The special effects were of course amazing. Overall I give it a B. Don't go in expecting miracles and you should enjoy it.

i would give it a c+/b
i wasnt familiar with the graphic novel, so this was new stuff, thought it was interesting..
i dunno, what can I say, it was alright.. definitely fluff, nothing terribly deep.. in my opinion..
i disagree with fallen about the music.. clearly they had some great choices based on the fact that it was an "alternative reality", etc.... I thought the fact that Nixon was president was amusing..

That... wasn't Downey Jr. It was some guy who's been on Gray's Anatomy and P.S. I Love You or something (the virtues of seeing this with girls).
I enjoyed it and I was kind of impressed that the high school and young college crowd came out, appreciated it, and was respectful throughout the whole film. I've never seen something with an audience like this and ZERO cell phone use.
I don't think it was better than Dark Knight or Iron Man. Considering the source I think in some ways it was much better than V for Vendetta (there wasn't any Wachowski-esque 'modernizing', really, though I think Zach Snyder added more fighting).
I wonder if there'll be a backlash over how dark it is from the 'not even close to have ever read the graphic novel' crowd. Didn't seem so from the audience at my theater though.
Oh... one more review-esque bit. Jackie Earle Haley makes a wonderful Rorshach.

Well no WONDER that guy sucked. Should have gotten Iron Man to play that part. I actually feel better about the movie now.

I'd actually give it an A-.
The casting choices for Rorshach (Jackie Earle Haley) was perfect, and Dr. Manhattan (Billy Cruddup) was also a strong choice. The visuals were spectacular. And I loved the storyline, which should be no surprise as I fell in love with the graphic novel 14 years ago.
It is sort of key to note that without "The Watchmen," Batman, the X-Men, and other comics would still be stylistically more cartoonish than real. This is the story that paved the way for the grittier, more violent superhero stories of today.
Reason why the movie did not get an full "A" in my book ...
The music that was used sometimes was not appropriate for the given scene. I did not like the casting choice of Oxymandias; the character was supposed to be perfection personified, and instead came off as an a-hole. And the ending was modified somewhat from the graphic novel. That was not too jarring, however, as staying that close to the original story would have required adding another 30 minutes to the movie, easy.
I'f you like movies that aspire to be a bit more than the standard superhero fluff, it is worth seeing. I'd probably rank it between the Dark Knight and Ironman.

Yeah...Ozymandias and Silk Spectre were questionable.

Good movie. Tad too much blue penis. Kidding, but there was more blue penis than I was expecting.
