He's always on warclaidhm's ass yet he, himself, is hated by so many more people. A lot of people think he's not 13 years old and the only one saying he is (with proof supposedly) is his spamming buddy in gemstone. Part of the reason I read these boards is to find out in advance who I should avoid interaction with in GS. So far the PC has provided a lengthy list of names, and Bob is definitely one of many who are on it.

That being said, I have no problem with the man. If he is actually 13 he certainly uses excellent spelling and grammar for one so young. He is an ass on the boards, but what does that matter? I would say 90% of the posters here are as well. From what I have seen such behavior is almost a requirement for any longterm participant.

This board has many hostile posters. I myself can at times be one of them. These boards do not discourage this type of behavior, if anything they encourage it. I am not saying this is wrong, I am stating what I believe to the truth. 90% is a nice sounding figure, but your probably right in saying its inaccurate. I would say its closer to 60%. Certain members that post heavily may skew my opinion because I see so much of them and so little of others, but I still believe my opinion to be correct.

I totally agree. However, the current admin prefer post and poster quantity over content and quality. Aslong as people post here they don't give a shit, even if its 1 line BS or someone threatening a person's kids. Just as long as they post.

Stray, that is simply not true. The administrators have stated that they do not want to put too many limits on posters, and they are tolerant of differing posting styles. While the one-liners can be a bit much, at times, worse would be to come down on people like a ton of bricks every time they decided to go on a bit of a spree. ;)

It is easy to misconstrue much of what goes on behind the scenes, simply because you do not see it. The administrators, and we moderators, really do try to give you guys a fun place to come and share with others who have many of your same interests. It is not always easy to make the right call, and sometimes we may not get it right. But, we really do try.

There seems to be picking and choosing of what to be upset about. Off Topic has always been the most active forum for a long time. However if you skim through the main page and look at all the folders, you'll notice that other than perhaps a handful, all the Gemstone related topics have been discussed in within the last few days. So you can't really say with accuracy that Gemstone isn't discussed here.

As for the quality of posts, shouldn't it be the members to be preoccupied with that since they are the ones contributing the majority of them?

We set the TOS rather low so that people can feel free to express themselves in whatever way they want. However if you want better quality posts, start with yourself (generally speaking) and work from there. People tend to respond in the same manner as was presented. So if you start off a thread insulting someone because you think they suck, I'm not sure how you expect the trend to get better.

Honestly, bitching about how liberal the board's administration is a whole new ballgame to me. I, as a moderator, let things go until someone complains. When a complaint is recieved, I review the situation and, if needed, take action. Should any of the administration start taking action upon any post that could be deemed slightly offensive to another poster, I'm sure you'd be right back here bitching about the iron hand that we oppress the masses with. It's obvious you love to bitch, and that's fine. At least try to find something relevant and non-hypocritial to bitch about.

As for complaining about members asking questions... Well, this is a message board? Most of us are here to answer questions, lend assistance, and voice opinions when called upon. And should the need arise that I have a question to be answered, I may just voice it here. Calling people who ask questions retards is a tad retarded in itself. How exactly do you go about answering a question you may have yourself? The first thing I usually do is consult friends, instructors, or anyone else I may think is learned on the subject. This is a message board composed of GemStone players, so it can be assumed that at least a few people here will be learned on the subject of GemStone. If you have a better method of resolving questions, do pardon me.

Off topic. Well, when I'm at work do I talk with my colleagues strictly about the happenings at work? No. When I'm at school, do I talk to another student strictly about academics? Not at all. Granted the subjects do come up at times, but a majority of the time spent conversing isn't about the subject immediately at hand. I view these boards just as any other social situation, and that's not going to result in a majority of conversation revolving around the game.

Strayrogue, to a point I agree with you. I often times skim over most of the folders on this board looking for topics that arent player/game bashing and the like. I dont think posts/threads like the ones I mentioned are growing in percentage, simply growing in number because the site's membership is always rising.

Like others have suggested, if you want to initiate intelligent gemstone debate on the boards start threads that have this goal in mind. Not to toot my own horn (Well...just a little) I, as Fallen and before as Dighn Darkbeam, have often spent hours composing posts in the attempt to arouse conversation I find interesting. Most of my efforts goes ignored, though others have lead to some poignant discussion.

And I'm comfy with judging Stray for what he is, and it looks like a lot of other people are too. Same way that people judge folks like Bob and me. It's affected my life because I've spent thousands of hours playing when I could be doing something else and made people think I'm the biggest nerd ever.

I've learned to not be as stupid as some of the people in GemStone, which is a very big plus. It's also improved my typing skill. Other than that, my life is hardly affected, it's just a way to pass time for me. And I do appreciate the friendships established through GemStone and here.

Bob pisses me off a lot. I have received more complaints about him from PsiNet users than anyone else- combined. He is ignored on PsiNet more than twice as much as anyone else- combined.

He can be irritating, obnoxious, self-righteous and downright egocentric. There are times I'd sooner pull teeth than listen to another arrogant, snide remark make its way past his forked tongue.

But, then, I have to admit.. he's also bright, and helpful. Anyone who would call Bobmuhthol an idiot hasn't been listening to him. Bob the player knows as much about game mechanics as anyone I've ever met- maybe the most knowledgable that I know, in fact. When I need help with spot research for a PsiNet feature, Bob will more often than not jump right in and find it for me. ..even if he does spout off something irritating with it.

Basically, what that leaves me with is either a really immature, older and experienced player who uses a false age as a crutch for his social inadequacies, or a really young player who has spent a LOT of time digging into the game and whose capacity for insight is very great.

There are times I want to kill him, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. When he figures out that he doesn't have to prove himself to every person he meets - READ THIS BOB - I really think, 13 or 30, he'll be one of the great faces of GS, and a valuable companion.

I realize this. However, there are times (very frequently), where I think something that I would not normally post, and see that Bob already has. Saves me the trouble of even thinking of posting it.

I have to agree, there have been quite a few times when I have wanted to say something in response to a post but I don't because flaming is not in my nature, only to find Bob has already said what I was thinking. Yes, this is just the internet but he has more guts than I have by far.

Also, I often find myself laughing out loud at some of his posts, cant deny that he is a funny guy. Hes helpfull, like when I started using PsiNet he was the first person to offer me advice on a problem I had.

He also made some boots for my empath when she was like 5 trains or something and I still have them so that makes him cool! I guess Jamus really wrote what most of us we're trying to say. All in all, I really don't care how old he is, I'm inclined to believe he is 13 but whatever, its no big deal.
