Trying to put together a necromancer's outfit to see if I can get 730 to be useful for more than just grossing out the locals...

If you 2x the skill at level 50 or so you should start to able to do some groovy stuff. Really, the best uses of Animate Dead are for capped people grabbing Tritons or Ithzir Scouts.

Why a scout? Why not a war griffin, or seer?

Why a scout? Why not a war griffin, or seer?

Scouts are fast. If you catch them at the top of their BCS range they swing at damn near once every three seconds. They can effectively hit all the creatures in the area, and you can hand them a 4x forged lance or a Claidh and they will tear through things like a nightmare. Keep in mind that they are also level 89, so you actually get a decent duration at cap with them.

War Griffins cannot hit magical creatures so that is one knock on them. You can't hand them a lance as they are an animal so you're out all that extra AS and DF. They are also gen 100, so your duration is going to be crappy without SIGNIFICANT lore investements. Finally, their maneuver attacks aren't all that great against like level foes.

Finally, Seers suffer from being primarily casters. Their spells aren't all that great, and their CS isn't able to easily ward creatures. They are also fairly slow. They can blow their nerves because animates aren't smart. IMO Adepts are somewhat useful because they have a few effective maneuver attacks like Motes. I will grab a grizzled Adept if I am heading into a warcamp.

Overall, Scouts, and if you can find a fast one Jan's make for the best animates in the game next to a Triton.
