...Ouch.

Poor guy. He's likable, but that was a ridiculously awkward hour of television. DeNiro was the most useless guest in history. And there were a slew of audio/camera problems, too. Makes you appreciate just how well-produced Conan and Leno are/were, comparatively.

At least the Roots are awesome.

I didn't catch it, but I did see the first episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live or whatever it's called, it's actually a successful show now, but the first episode was exactly as you described... straight up awkward.

I think he finally hit his stride last Friday(?) night when Drew Barrymore licked the pink bowling ball Jesus style for $10.

We’ll see tonight.

Its worth it just for The Roots anyway.

Go back and watch the first 3 or 4 seasons of Conan, they are even worse than this. I'll check back in two years and see if he's caught his stride.

It can be. But I’ll tell you why I like this show (other than the Roots).

He’s (they’re) really melding mediums here. There is a lot of internet reference and humor. Its smart.

Oh, and Leno has been stellar lately. Condolezza Rice? Prince? Holy fuck.

Remember though, shows are only good as their writers. I think they are really killing Jimmy Fallon's chance here. They are trying. I think it's going to take a year to take off though.

Yeah, its hit and miss. But I see a new direction with late night comedy television that has great possibilities. Its edging close. Will they pull it off? They are getting close off the baseline.

Prince had like that 2 minute guitar solo tonight, then gave the still-smoking guitar to some fat white dude in the audience.

...He's the shit. Want some pancakes?

I actually laughed at the "Fallon Bully" skit thing tonight. The black guy instigator was gold.
