Well in all my years played I've never had a sorceress that was very old. She is just getting ready to hit 15, and I have to say Maelstrom (just recently started using it) is NICE! I never realized sorcerers could be so much fun  Maelstrom unfocused
(in a almost non hunted area) is awesome. Course if people hunted there alot I'd never do that. Just had to give my appreciation to this spell and say how much awesome playing a sorcerer can be.

Heh, just be careful with it. I can remember many a times I've been asked out to a hunting area in Icemule to "school" a sorcerer on his/her bad casting habbits.

Oh I'm very careful, I hunt an area thats completely empty and if i see even one person I don't dare cast it. :cool2: I try to be very respectful and stuff of that.

Being only 15, you dont yet have the power, but please DO remember that 417 will kill a storm if you cast it at it. Also HOLD the hand of anyone that walks in and yell a lot. I know you've heard all this.. but I cannot stand people who are dicks with these kinds of spells (not saying you are at all, you sound responsible) and then pretend it doesn't matter because "We have the spell and we can cast it so whatever." Also, remember that once you get older FM is an incredibly powerful tool if you use it towards like level, and devasting to anything below your trainings. Spell aim helps and uh.. OK fine.. I'm done.

The day any of my characters die via an ignorant sorcerer using any spell unfocused is the day that sorcerer dies.
Period.
No discussion. No nothing.
When one of my characters dies due to someone else's ignorance... I tend to

Oh I do hold anyones hand I hunt with or if anyone comes in I grab them real quick. I try to be very responsible with the spell and only cast it in like a room full of things when I have like 10 mana and know I can't kill everything. Chieftans I can't ward to easy yet. Actually Syberus I took your advice to others when I retrained her with the spell aiming I double in it every train. If I did accidently kill anyone with a spell like that I'd feel so guilty and try to buy them tons of deeds and make it up somehow. I have to much of a conscious to be all evil and dick about it.

I have slaughtered sorcs for the very same reason casying open maels in various palces. Pookas for example, i mean i only walk through to get to steeds mares n miners so usually i woulnd't give a rats ass. Till one night there are two sorcs gathering a group of pookas apparently, one of them my good friend Redion. Well anyway long story short i was smacked by two storms and poked by pookas before getting up , laughing at redion for getting killed after a pooka manuver and decimating the other sorc.
You can go ahead and open hand cast just so long as you don't bitch about the consequences.

Maelstrom is good, but eventually it becomes the most efficient way to hunt, and it's really all you do.
It gets old pretty quick.

Maelstrom is a staple in the mid 20's-30's as it's a pretty reliable way to get a kill, and is still relatively cheap at 10 mana. After that when you have enough mana to play around with other spells it becomes much less frequently used, until you find yourself hunting something you can't ward very well. I actually currently use it to hunt the ducts, because it's the easist/most mana efficient way to do so. I'll post a few logs against like level targets for any of you that aren't real familiar with it. Note this is FM, not open.

Yes, I hate sorcerers who kill you by 'accident' with their spells while you are hunting. Isn't that right ADREDRIN!!!!!
I go a bit farther, if i walk into a storm and I even have to dodge a bolt from it the sorc dies.
so try to keep it focused if anyone is around

Aren't you the same people who whine that no spell should be player-friendly because it doesn't make any sense?

Part of the reason they like non-friendly spells is that they have every right to then go and kill the caster. I am a big fan of player-unfriendly spells.

Actually... no.
I was all for the Cone of Lightning change. Hell, I would like them to change mael and implosion so they CAN use it in a safe unfocused manner.
And meteor swarm is a complete waste of a level 25 spell slot as there is no safe way of using the spell. Fix it so it CAN be used.

I am all for a Focused Meteor Storm, and have suggested what I thought to be alot of good ideas for the spell in the wizard's folder. Making spells player friendly detracts from my enjoyment of the game. It takes away a sense of power that I have of character has... how deadly.

anyone know if elemental lore(air and water) aid in maelstrom's power? I just attuned my sorc to lightning so it would be nice if it worked. Not that i use maelstrom ever anyway. Got to 30 without using it except once or twice on a quiet night in vereri.

Reminds me of the time Kithus kept open Maelstromming in Varunar. I kept telling him that if I got hit with it, I'd end it. Needless to say he hit me with it once. So I killed him for it. Then everytime I walked by when hunting and saw a open Maelstromm, I'd kill him again, I wasn't waiting to die. So after 17 kills (then 8 kills of his son for doing the same thing just to piss me off), Khaladon caused an invasion of these wolves that would bite your hand and steal your shields....... After that, I never saw Kithus cast an open Maelstrom again.

You are saying you have killed Kithus 17 times? Jesus I hope he atleast got you once.
Maelstrom is an awesome spell... ive only just started using mine unfocused ONLY in certain areas where I know im the only one hunting during the day, seriously no one there. Anyway, focused maelstrom is extremely practical for everyday hunting for a Sorcerer.. and I think more Sorcerers need to use the spell.
side note: People who Maelstrom unfocused in a crowded area, or area frequented by alot of hunters are idiots plain and simple.
