Why am I reminded of Titantic?

I guess if they were going to marry anyway...

I could almost understand the sentiment behind it if the man had died like a month ago or something, but he passed away in 2002 for goodness sake.

I think she needs some grief counseling.

I was thinking the same thing. I wonder if it took a while to get the authorization from the head Le French.

His body was not present for the ceremony.

Eesh, I'd hope not after 2 years.

Umm.... How can they prove that he wanted to marry her? I mean basically they are saying the vows for him. I don't know about anyone else, but if I ever die and my girlfriend wants to marry my corpse, I'm coming back to object when they ask if anyone feels these 2 should not be wed.....

I don't see the big deal. Americans do much weirder things! :)

Yes, its probably not healthy to be attached to someone you'll never talk to again, but maybe its her way of getting closure. I dunno, grief is a weird thing.

As far as the timeline goes, it probably took her that long just to get the approval - beauracratic red tape and all.

What's wrong with this?

We don't know their backgrounds, their beliefs and their convictions. Maybe it was planified since a lot of months, they did all the preparation and a drunk bastard killed the guy. The girl, still in love with him, wanted to concretise her love by being married under God or something.

He wasn't only his boyfriend, now, he was her "husband".

I find this romantic, more, I find this a real way to show she loved him.

It better be for the "love" and not for claiming any benefits that may come with marriage. If she can start collecting anything because she's married to him now, I'll be sick.

I didn't even think of that. Didn't they mention he was a police officer? Now she'll get his pension!

I think this is a morbid attempt for this psycho chick to collect on this guy's pension.

X, I'll tell you WTF is wrong with it.....

HE'S DEAD!!!

I bet you think that if she digs his ass up and trys to consumate the marriage, you'd think that's ok as well. This chick needs some prozac and possibly shock therapy. It's not a healthy thing to grieve this long.

I'm 99.5% sure she already get his pension. You are considered "conjoint de fait" when you're with someone over 1 year, almost same benefices as if you're married (50% of stuff if you divorce, et cetera)

It's for the love, stop thinking greedy! :D

p.s. you are aware that after being buried for 1 month (or 2, not sure) all organes INCLUDING the one some of you seems to have a fixation about (I'm not talking about the heart) are EATEN!

Stop it, it's for the symbole.

I've been to Quebec and France. I saw a definite parallel in culture not just the language. Nice try, however.

I won't start giving arguments to prove how wrong you are in that analyse.

But you are wrong.

In our way of life, we are more like english folks than the french one.
