"I am trying to finish the book by June. I think I can do that. If I do, A DANCE WITH DRAGONS will likely be published in September or October.

(Yes, I am aware that I have previously said that I hoped to finish by the end of 2008. And before that, I said that I hoped to finish by June 2008, before I went to Spain and Portugal. And before that, I said I hoped to finish by the end of 2007. I know, I know, I know. No, I was not lying. I was wrong. And wrong again. And wrong before that. This time I hope that I am right. But you know, I can't swear that in blood. I write one chapter at a time. One page at a time. One word at a time. And then the next.)"

GRRM.

:( Sad panda.

You should ask Neff for tips. I hear he's an author.

Have you got a literary agent, SR? If not, you should start sending out query letters to agents in your genre even if you aren't completely finished with your book. Most of the big publishers won't even read your manuscript if you're unagented.

http://www.writersstore.com/product.php?products_id=2460

Buy that. It lists a ton of literary agents with contact info, what authors they've represented, and what type of books they've helped publish. DO NOT send an entire manuscript to an agent with your query letter. Send a small 15-20 page segment to give them a feel for your story and writing style.

If you can hook an agent before you book is finished, you'll save yourself a lot of time and grief down the line.

This. He's definitely going to drown in a 55 gallon drum of military grade cocoa before he finishes this series.

Ha. Okay, just googled that. Nieninque's snide comment made me think SR was writing a book, not being frustrated that one hadn't been released yet. I'm dumb.

I think he's a bit ahead of you.
