So I made a trip to Zul Lugoth to give Ceno a superior morning star. I was going to give him a few extra to sell, but I forgot to get any out of my locker when I left the Landing. Luckily, I had one stored up my ass since that is the only place I have space left to store things.

Anyway, we both get to ZL, I give him the spikestar, then notice I had one superior head and handle left so I asked him if he wanted another. We go to the forge, and then:

(Dialogue bolded)

Ceno asks, "They're all superior though, correct?"

The hum of the spinning wheel and the scent of abrasive compound fills the air as you refine the shape of your vultite spikestar-head.

Ceno asks, "So there's at least a small chance at a perfect?"

You say, "Yeah. I don't save the elegants."

Leaning close over your work, you press the spikestar-head against the wheel, reducing areas of roughness to a polished sheen.

You say, "I've only got one head and one handle on me."

You pause to press a tube of diamond dust paste against the hard felt wheel, loading it again with abrasive. Then you resume your polishing.

You say, "So yes, a minute chance at a perfect."

You chuckle.

Ceno says, "I'll have you know, I'm good luck."

Ceno folds his arms over his chest.

The hum of the spinning wheel and the scent of abrasive compound fills the air as you refine the shape of your vultite spikestar-head.

Ceno says, "You'll see."

You say, "Don't say that. I might have to keep you in the forge indefinitely."

Leaning close over your work, you press the spikestar-head against the wheel, reducing areas of roughness to a polished sheen.

You pause to press a tube of diamond dust paste against the hard felt wheel, loading it again with abrasive. Then you resume your polishing.

Ceno says, "Well, we both know that's not happening, but."

You chuckle.

Leaning close over your work, you press the spikestar-head against the wheel, reducing areas of roughness to a polished sheen.

You see Great Lord Ceno Parcere the Cleric.
He appears to be a Giantman of the Grot'karesh Clan.
He is tall and appears to be ancient. He has silver eyes and olive skin. He has very short, dark auburn hair. He has a full, dark red beard streaked with stray silver hairs.
He has some minor cuts and bruises on his right hand.
He is holding a superior maoral-handled vultite spikestar in his right hand.
He is wearing a gold-trimmed white suede bag, a white talisman engraved with a golden crown, a crystal amulet, a black silk cloak, a crumbling stone tower pin, a softened white suede satchel slung over his shoulder, a spiked black vultite warshield slung over his other shoulder, a dark silk pack clasped with an interlocking metallic orb, some dark light leather, an upper arm-strapped leather sheath, a wide silver wrist cuff, a dull gold ring, an inky black velvet belt, a dark spidersilk components pouch, and some ora-edged tan boots.

Ceno says, "If you want me to vise it, I'm a master crafter."

Ceno smirks.

You straighten up from working at the polishing wheel and run your fingers over the smooth surface of your vultite spikestar-head.

You chortle.

You say, "Naw, that's okay."

You remove a finished maoral star-handle from in your grey satchel.

Ceno says, "Just no training in forging the blunts."

As best you can tell, the star-handle appears to be in superior condition.
Roundtime: 5 seconds.

As best you can tell, the spikestar-head appears to be in superior condition.
Roundtime: 5 seconds.

You set your spikestar-head in the vise and turn the handle until the part is held snugly in the vise's grip.

Roundtime: 70 sec.

Frowning in concentration, you set to work assembling your vultite spikestar-head and maoral star-handle into a well-crafted whole.

You say, "Here goes nothin'."

[Sandstone Workshop]
Carved out of the bedrock, the smoothly finished stone walls in this room form a fitting backdrop for the various contraptions the dwarven crafters have constructed to aid them in their work. Along the eastern wall stands a low workbench with rows of tool racks against the wall behind it. Evenly spaced about the room are a grinder, a polisher and a vise, the base of each inlaid with small squares of sandstone. You also see a large sign, a rental hourglass, a wooden barrel and a black iron door.

You dip some rendered rolton fat from a small, earthenware tub and smear it on the spikestar-head, then try again.

Ceno says, "Wonder if I'll be able to tell before you."

You pick up a file and file the spikestar-head where the star-handle will fit, then try fitting them together again.

You chortle.

Intent upon fitting the two pieces together, you twist the star-handle back and forth trying to fit it to the spikestar-head.

You finish your work and step back, turning the vultite spikestar in your hands. You smile as you realize that this piece is probably the best that you can create.

Ceno laughs!

You exclaim, "Profit!"

You exclaim, "You are good luck!"

You glance down to see a perfect maoral-handled vultite spikestar in your right hand and nothing in your left hand.

Ceno laughs!

You chuckle.

Ceno falls over.

Ceno rolls around on the ground.

Ceno laughs at himself!

You laugh out loud!

Ceno stands up.

Ceno asks, "Amazing, aren't I?"

You say, "That was my LAST head and handle."

Maybe it's the fact that it's 4 A.M., but it just tickled me the right way so I figured I'd share it.

This looks very suspicious.

Looks like random chance to me, what makes you think it wasn't?

Honestly, the chance wasn't that minute to begin with. I've had roughly a 1 in 10 success rate vicing things in the past. People tell me the normal chance is 1 in 20, but either way it was just lucky. Just happened at the right time to make it somewhat funny to me.

Edit:

Towards the end of making my last spikestar I reset my counters to make sure they weren't off, because I was pretty consitently sitting at 1 in 10 with lots of people telling me the chance was 1 in 20. Been EXCEPTIONALLY lucky on this star and towards the end of the last.

6. Found "You finish your work and step back, turning the vultite spikestar in your hands. You nod, satisfied with the piece you've created." 87 times.
7. Found "You finish your work and step back, turning the vultite spikestar in your hands. You smile as you realize that this piece is probably the best that you can create." 14 times.

12 of those are superior spikestars out of elegant pieces. 2 are perfects.

Could be the chance for vicing elegants is better than the chance for vicing superiors, but either way I've gotten fairly lucky lately. Course I was supremely unlucky on the previous morning star, so it's just evening out.

Yeah. Your sample size really isn't large enough to say anything close to definite either way but hopefully your luck continues. Tell this "Ceno" to start auctioning his supervisory skills.

Hehe, yeah, gonna have to start paying him hourly.

My previous counts before I reset 'em were something like 44 in 400 or so. I'm sure it'll even out eventually to either around 1 in 10 or 1 in 20. I'm hoping the former of course, but everyone seems to say 1 in 20.

Cause one of the posters (well now apparently two) think I'm a GM, or at least like to joke with me that I'm a GM... I'm still not sure which it is.
