View Full Version : latest round of emeradan bullshit

NOTE: I was asked to post this by a friend who is scared of your wrath I personally agree that this was bullshit but for many reasons I quit Simutronics altogether. Namely Solomon's complete inability to keep the sides he took in player (not character) vs player conflicts to him fuckingself. I agree with my friend here that this is bullshit though. Christ. Why is simutronics letting itself become the asshole store? The guy who mans the phones is a god, but from what i can tell everyone else is a wanker. Too bad my friend kind of lost his objectivity when he ballantly tells a gm in a say that he was calculating redux (OOC...)

Here goes:

So I met this guy Euno, after talking for awhile and looking for a
locksmith in east tower, we got to talking about redux.
He's level 33, I'm 42. So he swung his lance at me, and I swung at him.
He also had a empath with him who healed us afterwards. No big deal.
Then this happens..
---------------------------

Euno whispers, "Hang on bud, GMs starting to send noc messages saying she is abusing game."
>
Euno whispers, "By healing us."
>
Noctavia murmurs a simple, mystical chant...
Noctavia concentrates.
Noctavia's abdomen looks better.

>
Euno whispers, "But I doubt that theyll come since nobodys on duty right now."
>
[Entering rest mode...press any key to resume.]
Noctavia murmurs a simple, mystical chant...
Noctavia gestures.
Noctavia's left leg looks better.
>
[Leaving rest mode.]
wh eu Come?
You quietly whisper to Euno, "Come?"

You quietly whisper to Euno, "We would've just gone to another healer in tsc anyway to get healed."
>
You do not feel drained anymore.
>
Euno nods to you.
>
Euno says, "Exactly."
>
You quietly whisper to Euno, "I don't think we were doing it on purpose."
[Coastal Cliffs]
A brisk wind from the Bay lashes against your skin as you move along the coastal cliffs overlooking the deep blue of the Darkstone to the north. Scraggly tree roots dangle from the rock face and provide a crude shelter for nesting fenvaoks. You also see the Lydrift disk, the merchant road and a gilt mithril gate.
Also here: GameMaster Emeradan, Lady Noctavia, Lord Euno

Emeradan whispers to the group, "Of course not... cause Lydrift whispers to Euno, "Swing that lance at me, I want to see what happens." isn't on purpose at all."

Emeradan smiles.

Emeradan stretches.
>
Noctavia blinks at Emeradan.
>
Emeradan whispers to the group, "Morning."
>
You say, "Oh, I was just going to calculate our redux."
>
Emeradan whispers to the group, "Use herbs."
You say, "Wasn't meaning to do it maliciously."
>
Emeradan winks at you.
>'ok
You say, "Ok."
>nod
You nod.
You say, "I will remember that."
>
Euno whispers to the group, "Good morning, and yes, we were testing armor, and weapons if you look at the logs."
>
Emeradan nods to you.
Emeradan whispers to the group, "Any other questions?"
You whisper, "Nope, I'll remember to use herbs next time. Thanks." to your group.

Emeradan nods to you.

You see GameMaster Emeradan McCloud.
He looks like he either just woke up or hasn't slept in days.
His short, straight dark brown hair is in a state of disarray, and his dark eyes look a little bloodshot.
He is wearing a shadowy black golvern chain suspending a miniature kelyn statue of Vel'Athorre, a bone-inlaid fire opal pin, a glass amulet, a brilliant white crystal pendant, a deeply-hooded black leather longcloak trimmed with silver-threaded runes, a matte black dagger harness, a carved stone fortress locket, a floresiensis skull, a tiny wings-spread pterodactyl charm, a white silk poets shirt, an antique silver armband, a soft kitten bag, a small lizard, a warped platinum star, a brass-bound maoral Adventurer's Guild badge, a mechanical shan pin, Teh Pwn, a tooled black leather satchel slung over his shoulder, a Rose McGowan doll, a dark ora skull ring, a thick black leather belt, a small silk coin pouch, some supple doeskin leather trousers, and some black leather boots.
>
You hear the sound of rustling leaves behind you. Looking over your shoulder to investigate, you find nothing there. However, when you turn back around, you notice that Emeradan has vanished.

Am I missing a point here?

Healing player inflicted wounds is mechanics abuse. He was just warning you and told you to use herbs. How is any of this bullshit?

Legacyofpain
02-20-2009, 06:14 AM
Eh, it really isn't my case of bullshit (I pulled my subscription on a Dragonrealms related spree...my friend is an annoymous coward who's been chewed out by onet oo many forums, and sees what happens here. I Can't exactly blame him But I'm not 12. I Don't want to fit in.) but i'd think mechanics abuse would involve a more elaborate scheme to feed exp to the empath. The idea of testing redux for like a couple of swings which has an extremely limited shelf life and tying that to mechanics abuse is way too loose IMHO. Now if they sat there whacking on it for more than like 2-3 minutes then i'd be inclined to agree but it seems like this was a pretty brief session.

Sorry if the consensous of two socially inept players isn't enough to tell us if given the level of emeradan hatred if one pissant thing is worth posting and another isn't.

Well, it was gray to me to be totally frank but I was asked.

The Ponzzz

Heh, it is right there and stated in POLICY 7.

Examples of serious bug abuse: Disconnecting from the merchant manager to avoid paying the purchase price of an item; finding a "feedback loop" with spells or mana points, which allows spells to be cast multiple times with little or no cost; repeatedly injuring yourself (or another character) in order to generate experience for an empath or cleric; finding a special circumstance in which to use a potion whereby its quantity is not decremented when it is used; abusing game mechanics to cause duplication of items or silver.

If anything, Em was being really nice there.

that's kinda a douche way to phrase what he was saying, but he was fairly polite.

except... you do not get exp for player inflicted wounds I thought.

Don't you get a message about not getting exp for it because it was player/character inflicted?

I think that's only if you use the CHALLENGE verb.

I've hated Emeradan for an extremely long time due to the fact that he's an ass, and has personally insulted me and accused me of having ulterior motives with several threads on the message boards, but I don't see anything wrong there.

Find better examples of GM retardation please. There's LOADS of them. This one isn't it.

Belnia

You can use the CHALLENGE verb for things like this, since injuries inflicted during challenges do not provide experience for empaths. As long as you're using the challenge mechanics, you're not abusing game mechanics for experience gain.

repeatedly injuring yourself (or another character) in order to generate experience for an empath or cleric

The policy is pretty clear. You are only violating this if your intentions are to generate experience for an empath or cleric. If your intention was to test redux, then you haven't violated policy.

I realize that there is some further discussion to this regarding the CHALLENGE verb. That information should be included in the policy if it is intended to be enforced in that manner. Yes, I also know that gauging a players intentions is a grey area, and difficult to do, which is probably why the CHALLENGE situation is better, so it should be stated clearly in the policy instead of having out of date information in there.

Repeatedly if they only swung at each other once they might have a defense. And from reading it, it does include intent. Am I violating policy when I repeatedly try a climb and fall and get minors not enough to stop a hunt but a few scratchs? But I agree Emerdan wasn't really being a dick.

Am I violating policy when I repeatedly try a climb and fall and get minors not enough to stop a hunt but a few scratchs?More than likely, if empaths keep healing you. I can't remember when it was a changed, but it's been a long time since I've seen people jump off the tree in TSC.

Why does Emeradan feels he has to smile after everything he says, especially if he is correcting/disagreeing with someone.

Emeredan did give a way to do what was trying to be done without breaking policy, but he could (should?) have brought up the challenge verb also, or could have been a bit less smug with his answers. It would bother me a little if this happened to me, just because it seems like Emeredan is treating the players like children, but that's about it.

From what I've heard, things get much worse than a smug GM, as long as he didn't officially warn the empath, no harm, no foul.

E's always had an ego problem. He's had it with his PC, as a GM and from what I understand he's that way IRL.

I've had my suspicions about a few people I thought could be him, but I haven't been able to make a decision. Wanna fill me in? You could always PM it to me if you don't want to throw it out there. (Or not answer at all, that's understandable too)

Emeradan is always nice enough to send me an email when he pulls my posts on the official forums. That right there shows you what kind of guy he is. It also always ends with a SMILEY so that I know there is no hard feelings. Gee, he's great.

I did it by accident and landed on my feet. I forgot I was in the tree. However, my friend jumped too just to see if she could land on her feet but got hurt. Hehe.

He lives like the next city over from me, never met him. Then again, I haven't gone to any gatherings.

Also, to repeat would have been nice if he had told them about the Challenge Verb, so next time they want to test whatever they don't get into hot water.
