They ALLOW both. You can change the grip between a THW and a OHE.

I think they're popular as THW, as they're the fastest (blessable) THW in the game. Katana's are just as fast, but obviously they're all naturally crit weighted.

They're also really strong OHE's comparatively, but they're 1 second slower than anything else. Enough AGIDEX cancels that out though.

Unfortunatly quarter staff is the fastest. But its basically a slow dagger. I like bastards myself, but pooling money to try to buy something really special.
