I used to play a MUD called Elvenrunes, if any of you have played it, it used to be great fun. I also played many many free MUDs during my MUDing life. I started from RP intensive "no PK" MUDs but I gradually moved to PK MUDs.
What I have realized is that PvP is the single most greatest variable for fun for me if done well. Sometimes, especially in a MUD like Elvenrunes, it rivaled or surpassed me playing a 10 man Halo 3 game with my close buddies. The intensity is epic.
I think CvC can be like 80% of Gemstone's "fun".
I really don't think the professions are all unbalanced for CvC.
I think people are CvCing incorrectly when they sit at the border and exchange command lines until one of them dies.
I've had CvC battles in Elvenrunes that went upwards of 2 hours. Chasing each other across 3 towns and finally ending up in a kill when my opponent mistakenly teleported from a town into the ocean and drowned. Absolutely, one of the top gaming experiences of my life it felt like 10 minutes although 2 hours passed.
Anyhow feel free to expound!
