Senator Judd Gregg has withdrawn from being the Commerce Secretary, mainly over his differences with the president over stimulus and the census.
"However, it has become apparent during this process that this will not work for me as I have found that on issues such as the stimulus package and the Census there are irresolvable conflicts for me. Prior to accepting this post, we had discussed these and other potential differences, but unfortunately we did not adequately focus on these concerns. We are functioning from a different set of views on many critical items of policy."

There were some pretty big differences between Gregg's and the White House's statements regarding his withdrawal.

“Obviously the President requires a team that is fully supportive of all his initiatives.
More from Gregg's statement... (http://gregg.senate.gov/public/index.cfm?FuseAction=PressRoom.PressReleases&ContentRecord_id=6c5fa06b-802a-23ad-4f98-65d74c049a47)
"Senator Gregg reached out to the President and offered his name for Secretary of Commerce. He was very clear throughout the interviewing process that despite past disagreements about policies, he would support, embrace, and move forward with the President’s agenda. Once it became clear after his nomination that Senator Gregg was not going to be supporting some of President Obama’s key economic priorities, it became necessary for Senator Gregg and the Obama administration to part ways. We regret that he has had a change of heart".

Strange that the White House does not bring up the differences in the Census.
Honorable thing for Gregg to do, if he could not serve in the limited capacity they would allow him.

You made a typo in your initial post and in the name of the thread.
Also, I would just like to add that Judge Dredd would never withdraw, because he is Rocky, and Rocky beat up Mr T.

Gregg apparently announced at his press conference yesterday that he has decided not to run for reelection to the Senate in 2010.
At a Capitol Hill press conference, Gregg also said he will “probably not” run for reelection to the Senate in 2010. If he retires from the Senate, Democrats may get a consolation prize for this embarrassing turn of events — one of their own in Gregg’s Senate seat.
In his statement announcing his withdrawal, Gregg cited his problems with the economic stimulus bill, as well as partisan disagreements over how to run the census, as reasons for pulling his nomination. He was quick to point out that there was nothing in the vetting process that made him yank his own nomination.

Something smells weird about this... Maybe someone got a peek at some skeletons in his closet? I can buy the "I don't want to be Commerce Sec" but now he's stated that he won't run in 2010?
Something's up.

Given the current trend, I'd guess back taxes.
