My son and I are out walking his dog last weekend and we were walking past a lot of campaign signs. He looked at one, shook his head, and said with an exagerated sigh "John Kerry is a liar". After getting control of my facial features I asked him where he'd heard that and we had the following (Paraphrased, I don't remember the exact words.) converstaion.
Son: School and TV.
Me: You know he's one of the guys running for president right?
Son: (With an eye roll) Yeah.
Me: So you think it's true? Is he a liar?
Son: Yeah but so is Bush so it probably doesn't matter.
Me: So what do you think they're lying about?
Son: Taxes and war...I don't know.
(Brief interuption for a Slurpee purchase)
Me: So who'd you vote for if you could?
Son: John Kerry
Me: Why's that?
Son: ...I don't know...But I know you're voting for Bush.
Me: Why do you think that?
Son: Cause you used to be a soldier and he likes soldiers.
My wife and I completely disagree about almost everything political so we haven't discussed the election in front of the kid. Interesting stuff the Kindergartners are picking up on their own these days.

Wow! That's quite precocious for a little one! Thanks for posting it! :)
I think its good to get kids involved in the political process at a young age. Helps to teach them how important it is to vote. Nickelodeon ran a poll and I think Kerry won the kids popular vote.

Yes, I heard of that. They've been right the last four elections too.

As a kid I always rooted for the incumbent, because I thought it would hurt the president's feelings if he got "fired."

Heh. That sounds like something I would have done, Farquar. Then again, I'd often end up in a quandry because the "fired" guy would be hurt, but so would the guy who wanted the job really, really bad. :(

That's pretty damn smart of the kid.
The conversation afterwards went like this:
Son: Daddy, what does regret mean?
Me: Well, you see, son, the funny thing about regret, is that it's better to regret the things you have done than to regret things you haven't done.
Me: By the way, when you see your mom this weekend, be sure to tell her ... SATAN SATAN SATAN.

At least if you win, you get to fly around in cool stuff and meet Curt Schilling.

I'm not sure I'd put much credence in a kid who thinks the height of comedy is the fart joke....
I just thought it was interesting that he had an opinion at all, it's not like they show a lot of political adds on Nick and I doubt him and his buddies discuss the race much during recess. Is he sneaking ABC news when I'm not looking?

The political rejuvenation is amazing. Now if only we could realize we're all on the same team and we just disagree about what's the best thing to do. I have great hope for his generation that they will grow up seeing the infighting that is currently going on and will reject the "this is my team" political affiliation.
