Well then, I shoved a few TPs into this with a new character just to test it out. Im wondering if Im doing something wrong because I usually die from the massive amount of RT this gives me. Also I burn through my daggers like no body's business. This normal?

Nope, thrown just sucks ass that bad and yes, that is absolutly normal.
Don't try thrown unless you have millions of silvers for toys to make it work. It's broken as a basic combat system.

If they ever get around to fixing it, I would think that they'd also start releasing more returners and bandoliers and whatnot, driving the price on those items down a bit. They sell for 40-50 atm, no? Pricey way to hunt.

Ummm no, that is like saying ever archer should have an ebow, and everyone else should have a perma blessed ICW epeen of death. There are reasons why those items are rare. It would be cool if that happened, but it never will.

Your questions can't be answered without more information.
Define "massive amount of rt"? Generally speaking, with a dagger you should see between 3-5 seconds of RT depending on your gear and your stats.
Define "burn through daggers"? Actually losing a weapon shouldn't really happen all that often - maybe 1 out of 40 or 50 throws as a semi-educated guess. I throw infrequently (Usually a few throws every few hunts or so) and I've never actually lost a weapon for example. I'm wondering if you aren't getting "lost" confused with the situations where you weapon is in the surroundings and you have to use the "search" command to uncover it?
Thrown as a primary sole hunting style is pretty tough. As already mentioned, if you have some high end gear it can be much easier. I can't say I'd suggest it as your sole hunting method as it would be frustrating.
Thrown as a supplemental hunting style is very fun and has it's uses. It's a fun way to mix things up now and then.
