My sorc is 16. CS is 102. Just trying to see if there are any changes anyone would make that could possibly make him better. Thanks in advance for any help. Also, I havent joined a society yet

i'm not sure there is any reason to over train in spells or double in MIU and AS at your level.

i could be wrong though.

At level 16 I don't see any Minor Spirit spells. Spells like 102 and 103 are key spells that will add to your DS. I would drop my Sorcerer Spells down to 16. And at least pick up 101 and 102. I am assuming you are trying to get to 425 when you are 25? If so there is no reason to have more minor elemental ranks than your current level. Drop that down to 16 and pick up 103.

When do you plan on getting 120? Another key DS spell?

Runestaff user: You should try at a minimum of 8 magic ranks per train. Most folks average around 10.

There is nothing wrong with being 2x in arcane or MIU. These are cheap Magic ranks. However don't sell yourself short with other skills.

I see you have only 3 EMC ranks. I highly recommend that you 1x in both EMC and SMC. Doing so will help with things like Mana return on spell 719. Reducing the cost on Focused Implosion. Scroll Infusing. And most importantly mana per pulse.

You are currently doubled in HP. 17 ranks yields 51 mana. That additional 17 ranks only gives you 17 more mana. OUCH expensive with little on the return. You haven't joined a society yet and that is fine. Most folks will be betweent 1x and 1.5x. Most COL folks are 1x because of Wracking. But it is a personal choice.

How much Physical Fitness are you going for? Being fully 1x in it is nice but expensive. I would recommend probably stopping at 24 ranks. You can always get more later.

Sorcery Lores: How much? That is a question everyone asks. I would like to tell you they are awesome but until the Sorcerer Review comes out you can make a powerful Sorcerer with zero lores. However having some lores does have perks. I was 1x to 1.5x somefolks are 2x. You will need 50 ranks to have only a 5% failure of retribution on 712.

Perception. This is a personal choice.. I am .5x in it.

Decided to break up the post

A basic Runestaff build. One can change it to fit what they like to do.

1x MIU
1x Arcane
1x HP
2x spell aiming
1x SMC
1x EMC
1x to 2x Lores

2.3x to 2.4x in Spells

Below comes from a Post that Fallen did earlier. In many ways this build has a lot of merit with the current situation with Sorcerers. If I were to restart. I would probably follow this path or a close variation of it. If I wanted to get some lores I might think about Demonology for easing failure of 740, benefits of Phasing and having Retribution fire off.

Necromancy though interesting currently really benefits the spell Pain. Animate Dead is just too flakey at the moment for the investment.

Summoning lores are nice but they will benefit spells like 111 and 118 for you. However you probably won't dabble with those till you are near your 40s in training.


I'm telling you, for a sorcerer to realize a lot of power the best way to proceed is to maximize CS. Lores are worthless for pure power outside of Elemental lores for DC, but that's IMO a waste of points.

1x Both Mana Controls
1.5x Harness Power
2.5x Spells
2x Arcane Symbols
1-2x MIU

Join COL for wracking, get robes, infuse a ton of scrolls for defense as you're going to suffer in that department as a runestaff user, and stay at 0 encumbrance.

Sorcerers are built around the old concept that CS = win.
