I was paying my bills for the month, and had to do a double take when I noticed that the credit card I use exclusively to pay for take out food or lunch (i.e., small amounts of money) was some $500 more than it usually is.

Long story short ... there was a charge from a Subway for $525.25. Filed a dispute with Chase already, so we'll see what happens here.

I probably still have the receipt somewhere in my shoe box o' financial documents. Is it worth trying to dig it up to see if the cashier's name was printed on it, or just let my credit card company handle it?

I'd see if I could dig it up.

Find it if you can.

In reality, the store owner should have caught the error while reconciling and shouldn't argue too much. But let your CC do the arguing.

I've never eaten at Denny's.

If I did, I probably wouldn't wait hours in line to save $5.

Unless it was a buffet.

Usually they have you speak with subway before entering a dispute but if they already started it then just let them do it. I would think they would give you a provisional credit, $500 at subway is a bit ridiculous.

Funny thing about disputes, I know where I work it costs the company around $50 to go through the dispute process so if the charge is less then $50 they don't even look at it, they just give it to the customer. One of the guys working there would enter in 3 or 4 disputes a month in bar tabs less then $50. Obviously, he doesn't work there anymore but I bet if he only did it a few times a year he would have got away with it. I would think it would be different at other institutions, though.

I went yesterday at 1:30pm. There was a line of people out the door just to get their names on a waiting list. I decided that something I could easily make at home was something I would not go through the mob for free.

As for the Subway thing the person at the register just hit one extra key to close you out. It should get settled swiftly and easily.
