I'm pretty sure every reason that Japan is cool is summed up here:

I'm in Japan right now... this place is kind of depressing.

Strange and depressing.

I want pics of any wanted sign you see with a Mii, and I need you to smuggle a true Kobe Steak out for me.

They do have an extremely high rate of suicide..... may be a reason.

my brother was in tokyo for about 2 months. he said it was one of the more surreal places he's ever been. granted, he's 6'5", so they probably all stared at him more than they would anyone else.

AIIIIIIIIIIIEEE RUUUUUUUUN!!!

If it weren't for strange and depressing, there'd be no Players' Corner. In Japan.

Thank you, Japan, for setting the tone, and making at least 3 pasty Wapanese obese ninja emos go LARPing with me.

.

Say, do they have us in Japan? You know, Japanese people ridiculously obsessed with American cartooning, so much that it has taken over every facet of their lives and there are a bunch of Japanese teenagers sitting on a Pagoda smoking Marlboros and listening to Country music while flawlessly replicating the works of Mel Blanc?

Now, I'm not sure if I ever had an androgynous vestigial vagina, but I'm pretty sure watching the entirety of the link that Methais posted up definitely put some sand in my hypothetical lips.

You know, it's been a long time since I've seen an RL vagina and I'm pretty sure hentai doesn't = a real human being even if I was brave enough to do acid.

When I was 4 years old (I may have been 3.. I can't remember my exact age, I was just very little) I went with my dad on a business trip he was taking to Tokyo, and to visit my aunt who lived there at the time with her husband.

All of these old ladies and old men would approach us when we were out and about and ask if they could touch my hair.. because apparently natural blonde hair is considered a sign of good luck. Weeeird.

The next time I go to Korea, I am putting in for leave and hanging out in Japan for like a week on my way back. I just have to go and see how weird it would be to be a 6'3" ridiculously blond guy there.

rofl. You’ll love the miniature furniture.

But one of the reasons Japan is freaking cool is the profound mix of ancient and modern cultures.

For example. You’ll never get the experience you get at a Starbucks in Japan here.

Anyone who goes to a Starbucks in Japan as a way to "experience new culture" should be beat in the head with a blunt object.

Agreed.

But it is different.
