Yes, I am showing off. But this is cool as shit and someone must know. So far Crysis and Red Alert 3 are the only games I've played but both look superb maxed out at 1680 x 1050.

If ya don't mind, what did you end up paying for the rig all together?

2900 after tax.

Let me try it Fallen.

You paid too much.

I quoted my build, of dual cards, at around 1600.

Beast system though, those new i7's. And smart choice going with the Triple Channel memory, for some reason kids still think 64-Bit with an i7 is good with 4...

You could do some serious porn watching with that thing...

It was either go through Digital Storm or do it myself. If you do some research on their company they're golden. I've never buitl a PC in my life nor do I know anyone skilled at it. I paid for the quality of service, the 3 year parts and labor warranty, and the life time tech support. Plus they're in CA and speak perfect english. I'd rather pay a little more for POM than try to save a few bucks and have a 50 lb paper weight show up at my door.

I haven't tried GS on it yet. Probably looks just like it did on all my other PC's.

Trust me, I knew I could have built it myself for a lot cheaper. That sounds like major hell to me. I'm happy. I knew I could have gotten it cheaper but DS is a trusted company.

Its only money. If they intended for you to hold onto money they'd have made cash with handles, right?

Yeah, I don't want to jump on the threadcrapping bandwagon, but that is WAY too much to pay for that rig.

About $1000 too much. just from looking at it.

And who pays taxes on computer parts anymore? Newegg FTW!

Next time you want a new rig, tell me what you want and I'll only charge $500 plus parts to build it.

Dur, I was just fucking with you. You could probably run GS on two 5 1/4 floppies and an Apple ][ or something.

And I'm not saying building your own rig is for everyone, there are people who build their own decks, and people who replace their own transmission.

You would be surprised at how easy it is to build a machine though, and I advocate it to anyone who is younger than parkbandit. It shouldn't take you very long, and it's relatively* foolproof. And once you've done it once you'll have the confidence to do it for all the rest of your machines, and you will have a lot more pride in them and the savings will add up if you cycle them out frequently enough (or you'll be able to cycle them more frequently).

*I had a friend build a machine and not use (wasn't included) the insulation pieces between his case and MB, fried it... but that still cost him less than the assembly cost.

I think that's going a bit far. I contract all the work for my house (I have a friend who needs the work), and I still go to the dealership to get my oil changed (which is free for right now though, but anyway...).

SHAFT, I'm not berating you for spending your money how you see it, fuck, I paid my dealership $500 to install a fucking trailer hitch on my Subaru, but just for others out there that may balk at paying three grand for a good computer, I want to make sure people aren't getting the wrong idea.

Building a computer from components seems daunting, but really really isn't. It is like putting together Ikea furniture really.

The only iffy part for me was seating/thermalpasting the processor. I screwed that up big time, but I still fixed it with no damage.

You all are ruthless. Nobody can post pics of anything they are happy about without getting hated on. Except babies. I don't think anyone has hated on baby pics yet.

I wasn't suggesting he build his own deck or change his own oil/transmission, but I know plenty of people who do that sort of thing themselves, and plenty of people who wouldn't stand a chance in hell of doing it. Building your own computer is the same in that to some people it's worth the price premium of not learning to do it, and to other people, it's so second nature that it would seem ridiculous to pay someone else to do it. It's a skill, and to those with an open mind about it, it's an easy skill to learn.
