Just curious as to how everyone makes their money in game. For me, I'm a little let down right now, because I've been hunting shan and they drop cheap 100 coin shells a lot, and also because I can't make any money enchanting. Discuss.

Picking up items off the ground.

Scams.

That's terrible. I can't resort to tactics like that.

I'm a packrat. I've learned to pick up everything while I hunt, and skin too. That's when I started actually acquiring a little money. After reading the "How much are you worth" thread, I'm beginning to feel like a pauper though.

Money can be earned pretty quickly by hunting things that are rarely hunted. Minotaurs, bog trolls

Unless you can hunt those extremely out of the way places that tend to gen more silver than usual, it is difficult to make silver through hunting. From level 0 to 80ish(GSIII), I hunted the relatively better exp spots and considered myself lucky when I broke even after a hunt. A couple places were better, especially with skins...a few were just terrible(wind wraiths).

Fortune is really relative. If you want a few million(anywhere from 1 to 10)...

You can make silver through cumulation over time. If you just spend, spend, spend. You'll never make enough to be considered wealthy all at once.

I'd recommend picking up all the little trinket items to sell, pick up the crud gems, sell off the empty boxes to the pawnshop.

If you mean rich by(100+ million) then you resort to merchanting, buy/sell all the time, blah blah blah. Or Bob's recommended dirty tricks.

I hunted my ass off. Found great places to hunt, and kept at it. I'd buy a nice weapon, then trade up. I started with a jagged vultite falchion, then a crystal-hilted longsword < that steam flare one >, then a Veniom-Hilted Falchion, etc.....

Very rarely did I merchant. The first 3 years I played, once a year I would to go the Landing and sell all my old shit in a backpack, profit or not, just to get it out of my locker.

Edited to replace a stray I with an a.

I noticed that hunting monsters that are rarely hunted wasn't that good money wise.

If you make 10k per hunt instead of 1k, it's still just 10k.

Hunt cash, simply. You can make easily 100k per hour after being level 20 with skinning, so rest is up to you. Centaurs give more, way more, so a lot of others.

Its 10k versus 1k on a cumulitive basis. If you need 50,000 to level, approximately 1 hunt per 1k exp. Thats half a million per level versus 50,000 silvers.

With the new skinning changes, who knows if it will still remian profitable in the same way.

it's 500k, agreed.

If it takes you 4 minutes to fry and make 10k, then resting 20 minutes, why not doing both sides?

meaning, hunt FAST and fry.

Move to hunt cash, hunt cash and unfry in the process (slower (around 20% less exp absorb) but you make money AND learn.

I was doing that and was almost hitting the million per day.

The game of Dragon's Bones hails from sometime during the First Age. The exact origins of the game are lost in the depths of time, but are believed to have been created by the Arkati. However, this is the ONLY game of its kind. These bones are unique. Several games have been created in an attempt to copy Dragon's Bones, but have been unable to attain the same quality and excitement. It is said that the dice were created from the bones of deceased dragon's by their Arkati servants to honor them. Nobody knows for certain whether this is true or not, we will never know for certain. All that is known is that these bones possess many strange and unidentifiable magical properties. The creator of the game understood this and established certain special bets to take advantage of these random occurences.

The rules are simple: Someone rolls the bones. People bet money as to whether the roller (called Slayer) will be successful, or unsuccessful. There are several other bets which are impartial to the slayer's success, and are only for one roll. This means that the bet only lasts for ONE roll. You are betting on the outcome of the bones on the next roll. If you bet correctly, you are payed off according to the odds chart. If you do not bet correctly, then your silver is swept into The Dragon's Maw!

Other bets last for several rolls, and are only dependent on whether the slayer succumbs to Dragon Strike, or gets the Quarry. The bones are passed to a new slayer whenever the current slayer hits a Dragon Strike.

Play begins with the Fly Out Roll. At this time, there is no Quarry to try and capture. People betting with the Slayer are hoping that a 7 or 11 is rolled on the Fly Out Roll. People betting against are hoping for a 2, 3, or 12 (All of them known as Dragon Bite). If the Slayer rolls something other than the previous numbers on the Fly Out Roll, that roll becomes the Quarry. To win, the Slayer MUST roll the Quarry again before a 7. For those betting against the Slayer, a 7 is the only way for them to win their bet. If the Slayer captures the Quarry, then he keeps the bones and is on a new Fly Out Roll. And the process begins all over. If ANY of the Dragon Bets hit, the Slayer retains the bones, AND the next roll will be a Fly Out Roll.

There are several bets that can be made which have nothing to do with the Quarry. Most of them are only concerned with the Slayer rolling a 7 before whatever number is bet upon.

There are TWO types of betting: Normal Betting and Dragon Betting. You may make as many normal bets as you wish. If you do make a normal bet, you will be unable to place a Dragon bet. Only ONE person may have a particular Dragon bet.

For Bet types and Odds payout, read the chart.

I have about 5m banked and my chars are using bare-bones equipment. I don't know the first thing about Dragon Bones and if I lost even 1m playing it, I'd be crippled.

Speaking of which, how about a contribution to the Make Me Not Poor Foundation?

This thread makes me angry.

P.S.- In 6 years of playing, I never had over a mil until I sold every single thing I owned before I quit this last time.

I didn't even break 1.5m

It will happen damn it. Ninmah killed me for winning 18m in one roll last summer, why won't he kill you!

Although I get a lot of satisfaction for all those people bugging you for handouts.

The key to making money is easy.

Earn money via hunting. Dont' buy stuff you don't need. Don't buy stuff that is over-priced.

Very general but it's gotten me 10m and over 20m in gear. I'm making a ton more now that I can hunt too. Hehehe...

Hunting and carefully thought out buying/selling. For example, I recently bought something for 2 mil, then sold it on for 5 mil. From then on it just builds and builds and builds.

I have no luck when it comes to buying low and selling high. Also, I just saw 4x breastplate go for 150k. I can't see how enchanters make their bones these days. I'll lose more than 150k from buying the damn potions. There's no profit to be made.

I mean dragon bones and merchanting aside i've made a lot hunting. I tend to give a lot of my stuff away when i go away for extended periods and i came back with very little after last time. But back with the old repel I know i sat in EN for a few level and made a few mil a level hunting baesrukha back when no one hunted them. The bog in vaalor was nice too. Its just about hunting in the right places.

Fortune? What fortune?

Most of what any of my characters have was either given, bought by coins from hunting or stealing, or I found.

Hardly a fortune though... for the years I've played.

I was a pauper. Then, near the times Ta'Illistim opened, we went over for a bartering merchant. You offer him something, he let's you pick something from his wares.

I offered him one of those shiny spheres from the Dhu Gillywack (10k, pulled the lever, random sphere with toss scripts). I picked the full plate. 5x, somewhat crit padded.

Sold it for 15m. Since then I've hovered around there, in terms of coins (+ or - 5m or so).

Are you a dark elf trying to buy potions in Ta'Illistim? I didn't notice the potion prices being just THAT bad.

1x will take 2 pours of Rohnuru
2x will take 4 pours of rohnuru
3x will take 6 pours of Duqnuru
4x will take 8 pours of Duqnuru

3500 per rohnuru in alchemist
5500 per duqnuru in alchemist

Approximately 2 potions of rohnuru for 7k
Approximately 3 potions of duqnuru for 16.5k

Grand total of 23.5k and 500 silver for a leather breastplate.

Turning it around for 150,000 really isn't bad considering the only real input was time.

I enchanted a runestaff to 5x and sold it for 750,000. I almost felt guilty doing it because I had made a little over 3x my original input into it.

Honestly I *wish* I could make 150k on 4x projects. I can't even seem to give away my +22 runestaves now heh.

Formerly a pickpocket, now my 1x (max for empaths) training in it is useless. When I do play, any money I make is in tips.

I buy my potions at the caravans.

Rohnuru 10k
Duqnuru 20k
Dirtokh 40k
Destroying your 7x masterful damage padded leathers - Priceless.

Actually I haven't blown anything up yet, but I couldn't resist...

Wow, another dragon bet on the first roll? Earlier last week I put a 500 coin bet on Master for the first roll and hit. And you guys were saying someone put a 15k Master bet down later on that day and it came up? Funny stuff...

Man, why worry? If you blew the sucker up you'd have gotten zippo. Enchanters deserve their profits.

I made the bulk of my "fortune" by hunting in Illistim...Kiramon to be exact. I find that the critters in Illistim are richer...even the undead like baesrukha and moor wights drop pretty decent gems and boxes. If you can hunt Shan, you may want to consider relocating to EN for a while if you want to make a fortune. I made my first million in about a month when I was hunting Kiramon in my mid 30's.
